According to my sources as well wheaton was very good as well as ankeny, and urbandale. They are running about a half hour behind with awards scheduled at 6.
(From my sources at Waukee,) I've heard that Urbandale looked amazing and Wheaton's opener is incredible! Looking forward to seeing who ends up in finals...
Indiana is known for loving Indiana choirs. I believe there are only two Iowa schools (Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Cedar Rapids Washington) that have ever won an Indiana competition. Even groups like Waubonsie Valley have a hard time winning in Indiana. (disclaimer- my favorite group is from Indiana)
Having said that, I'm totally ready to make my VERY random predictions just to mix it up a bit (cuz who can accurately predict this competition?)
Oh believe me, I know that we love our Indiana groups here. I saw that first hand last year when Teays got the shaft at Shelbyville. Got beat by two Single-Gender groups and us. They easily deserved 2nd that day.
At our Contest of Champions, it seems like out of state groups have a better chance at winning than in-state. Since 1993, 13 out of state choirs have won at Contest of Champions in 18 tries. And would ya know, the first winner just happened to be from Iowa (West Side Delegation).
When early in the season, I tend to favor in-state choirs. Whether it be travel or just feeling more comfortable in their surroundings.
Not only that. I've always thought that in-state schools have a small advantage because most schools pull their judges from within the state. In no way am I accusing any judges or schools of "protecting their own". If you want a more elaborate explanation, message me.
And actually, I did mean to switch those captions. I was multitasking.
Best of luck to everyone!
lol. this is Iowa, not Indiana :-P
