I'd like to give a "shout out" to LJHS First Edition! I'm really proud of you. A lot of people do not know that we do not start learning the competition show until the 2nd weekend of Jan. With this years crazy winter weather and the cancelation of many rehearsals, FE learned and performed their show in about 7 weeks! We didn't even get an opportunity to "tweak" the show before going out to compete.
Don't underestimate FE!

I haven't been this excited for a Show Choir competition since I was actually in Minstrel Magic many, many years ago. From what I hear, there will be a plethora of old Carroll alums coming to this competition...some dating back to the early 90's. I can see this being a very emotional day for not only myself, but for all the other alumni that helped Minstrel Magic become one of the consistently excellent show choirs in the Midwest. Good luck to Norwell, Northridge and all of the other amazing choirs this weekend. Lay it all out there on the stage and cherish these times that you have because you will surely miss it when its over.

Yeah, HN was in first in choreo and vocals I believe going into finals. This contest is gonna be a bear. Lots of good choirs fighting for only a few spots!

No Carmel was 1st in vocals going into finals. I heard Norwell REALLY stepped it up for finals. I hear the show is super super clean. Can't wait to see it on YouTube (hopefully!)

Just out of curiosity, at Homestead last week, did they award captions after finals or after prelims (like they did last year?)

Can't wait to see both of Norwell's groups!!! Haven't had a chance to see them all year and we usually run into them somewhere by now!

i believe they awarded it after finals. can't be sure, but i heard carmel and HN tied for choreo in finals (behind norwell of course), but i heard HN was ahead in choreo during the day. i could be wrong though.

well to throw another twist in...

Norwell Beat both HN and Carmel in Choreo at homestead, and were only 3 points from HN and 9 from Carmel in finals.

I think there could be just about any combination of 7 groups that could be in finals. A lot will come down to who is on their game, and what these judges like the most. I think most people can look at these 7 groups and think just about any of them could be a GC group. So much of this weekend will come down to who do they like best.

I see why they only have the one ticket price, because it will be a FULL finals no matter who makes it, so might as well get the most out of ticket prices as you can.

This will be my first time back to this invitational since I graduated in 2004. Can't wait!!!!!

Looking through predictions I find it interesting how close everyone's are to each other considering the incredible talent at Carroll. Here are mine:

MIXED
GC: Franklin Central (Choreo)
1RU: Zionsville (Vocals)
2RU: Carmel
3RU: DeKalb
4RU: Huntington North

These five choirs will most likely be the finalists. I have Franklin in first because they are outstanding this year and their choreography is practically unbeatable. Zionsville will probably take vocals because they defeated the incredible Lawrence Central earlier this season. However, They will probably win that category by a small margin allowing FC to sneak in for a win. Carmel is fresh off of a GC finish at Homestead but will probably end third due to how early it still is for them. Finally, DeKalb defeated HN already this season and they will probably inch out in fourth. As far as I know, no other groups competing have beaten any of these choirs.

I think this is definitely a way it can go! However, I would like to point out that Zionsville got choreo over FC last week and FC got vocals. So FC doesn't have unbeatable choreo. Also Huntington North was ahead of Carmel after day round at Homestead last weekend, so it will be VERY close between the bottom 3.

Of course ANYTHING can change over a week, so this will be a SUPER close competition!

GIRLS
GC: Carmel (Vocals and Choreo)
1RU: Norwell
2RU: ZIonsville

This category is substantially easier to predict. Carmel edged out a win versus Norwell last weekend and will most likely repeat. Norwell defeated Zionsville at Center Grove.

Is there a set amount of time between the last day show and the start of finals? Meaning, if the day shows run late, will finals start later?
How far in advance will the doors open for finals seating?
Will finals be in the gym or the auditorium?

These are all questions that cannot be legitimately and accurately answered. Anything can happen during a competition meaning a fire alarm, a gas leak, a scoring error, time delay. No one can really know the answer to those questions until the daytime awards ceremony. You should just plan on getting there before finals is supposed to start. a competition will never start finals early. that would be unfair to the performers.
