Here it is....the creators of Finale National show choir Championships is proud to announce the Michael E. Weaver Scholarship. In an effort to support the arts we wanted to make it easier for those hoping to continue their Arts education on the collegiate level.

Michael E. Weaver Scholarship

The Michael E. Weaver, Scholarship is intended to award scholarships to full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the area of Fine Arts and closely related disciplines at any accredited college or university. Each spring, five students will be awarded a scholarship to be paid in the fall semester of the student’s next year, and may be eligible for renewal for the following year. Scholarships may be as much as $5,000.00 per school year, and will be paid directly to the institution.

To qualify for renewal, a recipient must remain a full-time student, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and submit a transcript within 45 days after the end of each year. If the renewal requirements are met, the scholarship will be renewed for the following school year of the recipient’s undergraduate program.

If you satisfy the eligibility criteria, please submit a completed application by March 31, 2011 to:

Michael E. Weaver Scholarship

Mind’s Eye Conceptions, Inc.

1216 Hardesty Blvd.

Akron, Ohio 44320

The Scholarship Committee may choose to conduct interviews, either in person or by telephone, with applicants. The sponsors may also want to meet with winners to determine the best host for an internship. By submitting an application, students agree to make themselves available for these purposes.

ELIGIBILITY

· Must be a legal resident of the United States of America.
· Must be a high school senior or graduate at the time of application.
· Must intend to major in Fine Arts or Music Education
· Minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply
· Three (3) teacher recommendations if GPA is between 2.0 and 2.99 (one must be a music educator)
· Two (2) teacher recommendations if GPA is over 3.0

Relevant Information
Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a financial need.

Top 20-scholarship finalists will be selected for further screening.

For reasons out of our control, we have had to change the venue from Radio City Music Hall to the Hammerstein Theatre in the Manhattan Center. Cirque is putting on a large engagement for the next five years that has displaced many organizations and events last minute, such as the NFL Draft, The Tony Awards, NYU Graduations and many other concerts including Finale.

The Hammerstein is a converted opera house, and seats up to 3600 people. It was the best choice to ensure that the kids all have a great performing experience in NYC. We have added Mario Lopez as our celebrity host, and we have increased the cash prizes to over $55,000. This coupled with our one of a kind workshops where students will dance with the choreographer for Beyonce, take acting classes from someone who has had roles in Law & Order, Combo players will play with a world renowned artist, ensures that all the students involved will have a wonderful ONE OF A KIND experience. Finale will truly be something the show choir world has never seen or experienced before.

So... rumor on the street is that this competition is no longer being held at Radio City, but in the Manhattan Center (Where FAME holds their FAME NYC competition).
According to their website they are in the Hammerstein Ballroom in the Manhattan Center.

I do have to agree, Kevin. They have so much up their sleeve entertainment wise, it's going to be amazing. Plus, they have a bunch of workshops you can go to, with some amazing talent.
