im just saying it isn't fair to bash a group like Highleit have you ever thought about they maynot have thoses resources like a chorographer or a band or even risers so should we lower them down because they work with what they have?

yikes! that was a mouth full! lol i really think that it is so much harder to sing and dance that when group that is competintg for the same thing doesnt do that, plus doesnt have the band behind them, which adds another element, that can't be considered as being relevent in the same competition. that doesnt mean that their vocals werent great... but any other group could have absolutely great vocals if they werent moving around and out of breathe. it was a great competition and we really enjoyed it. we saw some great shows. congradulations to clover hill. loved loved loved albertville! what an innovative show.

stage prop may I say this your definition of a show choir is a group of students who can just so happen to sing and dance and seem to have very big sponsors or boosters to help off set the cost of your shows and expenses and to have a big band behind you were all you do is one show a year and its the same show you perform from fall to spring not doing any other shows such as a christmas show or a valentines show then you tell your group that winning is the most important thing and then your kids forget about why there out there in the first place the most important thing is to have fun on the stage and to do thier very best those are the things that they will remember and that is what Highleit did they had fun on stage and interacted with the audience and they did not care if they won or not but they had fun and by the way don't hate on CloverHill because they beat Albertville because I saw the finals and the pre-lims it was very close Show shoppe and you know what I believe that both groups deserved GC but it was based on the judges opinion clover hill won if u put a different panel of judges there it would have different because there opinion would have been different so don't hate the judges cause they did not choose who you wanted to win

Then what up with the GC. What a amazing Show Choir from Albertsville, Alabama. Amazing vocals, costumes, stage props, cutting edge choreograpy and show. I think everyone was shocked at the judging. My friend said he saw the judges all huddle up trying to pick the GC after the last show. What were they doing? One potato two potato three potato four? Congrats to Albertsville you had great parents and supporters too. I saw the Albertsville people congratulating all the perfomers. I haven't seen this in a long time. I am glad to see such sportsmanship.

Thank you! And by the way...um...it's Albertville. No s.

Please don't get me wrong. Highleit has great singing talent. I said that in my post. However, you have to agree that they are not a Show Choir, according to Belmont's definition. The other Show Choirs like POCA had great vocal talent too! Try singing and dancing with some cutting edge choreography. It's hard work to get the vocals just right. Think of this too! Say I brought two buses to Belmont. This would cost me approximately $10,000. Costumes/Shoes another $10,000. Band instruments and equipment aren't cheap either. Stage props could be anywhere from $500 - $5,000 dollars. I didn't mention a truck or trailer to bring all your equipment. Then you have to pay a choreographer and music arranger, not counting the hours and hours of Band, dance, and singing practicing. Then you go to a Show Choir competition and a school choir beats you. The next time you go to Belmont just grab some clothes and a CD and walk around singing and beat two good Show Choirs.

Personally, although I see where you're coming from, mentioning money was kind of stupid. Just because a choir pays mucho dinero for top-of-the-line stuff doesn't mean they should win.
And just because the choir you evidently support didn't win doesn't mean the judges are idiots.

And you should validate yourself. Like, now.

i wasn't able to see Poca but from what I was able to see of Highleit, they were really good. I dissagree that because they didn't have a live show band, they shouldn't have been able to beat any groups in finals. Like I said, I wasn't able to see Poca, so this is as much of an opinion as I can give.
let me rephrase this before people misread it.

Just because a group doesn't have a band, costume changes, props, etc, doesn't mean that they aren't amazing. Highleit is a godd example of this.

I must say that this years show shoppe was definitely amazing however I have to defend my friends from Highleit but wasn't this a show choir competition were vocals count more than anything else because this is Belmont's central focus so why should you bash a group who did so well with there vocals especially a group like Highleit who did the best with what they had no costume changes, no props, no fancy choreography, just raw talent don't hate because they beat groups twice there size
haha i agree

I just talked to a friend of mine that also attended the Belmont Music City Show Shoppe 2010 and he was surprised that Highleit placed higher than Poca. We agree that they had great vocals, but wasn't this suppose to be a Show Choir competition? According to Belmont's program they define a Show Choir and I quote, " While vocal production is the central focus of the ensemble, the perfomers integrate staging and choreography, costumes, and props with a LIVE SHOW BAND. In my unbiased opinion this was a Show Choir competition and POCA should have placed ahead of Highleit even with their great vocals. Am I wrong or right?

While Poca might have had a live band, etc., from what I saw, they did not seem to enjoy their show/ perform it with energy, which made it really quite boring. So while High Leits might not have been a show choir by that definition, they were much more entertaining, which was how the judges ranked the finalists.

Albertville is a great group! I enjoyed their company on Saturday. We would love for Albertville to come to WV and compete and we would love to come south and compete, however, our two festivals are on the same date
