honestly i feel like the sauk prarie musical thing is to different, i watched their show at silver stage and i was so bored during it. but what do i know?
anyways, is there anyway to see the feed from yesterday? i was competing and would love to see some of those shows

haha You're lowly opinion has been recognized haha. Assuming your "sitting in chairs" comment refers to last year's show, There was also a lot of dancing, and the chairs really came in handy when "Fat Sam" needed arm surgery and couldn't dance. Also, our show this year involve a lot more dancing than last year, but last years show was more "successful." I quote that because for us this year, success isn't about how many trophies we bring home, but by how many people we touch.

no there really wasn't a lot of dancing. the girls all danced in the slow ballad song, but it was really slow dancing. this is not just last year, this happens EVERY year. i really wish Sauk Prairie would take this constructive observant critique to heart instead of just brushing it aside. i love that sauk is different, but it is possible to be different and more accessible to judges AND the audience. i don't mean to be mean- i tell people all the time that i could see myself teaching at a program like Sauk. i just think that with a few tweaks to the show design and choreography Sauk could be THE powerhouse program because they are different- which again is a GOOD thing. Too many choirs nowadays look all the same.
lol funny story. on my way down to muscatine today i had a mock interview for director of Executive Session with myself. I talked about what you said here and how I would tweak their style of shows to be more accessible to the rest of the show choir world. i pretty much said the exact same stuff as you. it's really hard to judge them against anyone else, and (this is maybe a bit harsh) but until they become more accessible they really can't be a top tier powerhouse show choir. sure they can have GREAT years (06's Big River comes to mind) but its really sorta... crappy to have half of your choir sitting in chairs and gesturing to each other for half the show. i mean is that REALLY legit choreography?
that being said, i really like the whole "musical in a show" idea. i just think that different musicals could be picked, and for sure better choreography can be used in the shows. that is just my lowly opinion though.

My feelings on Sauk is that it is such a hard show to judge. They do what they do very well but to me its a lot of step touch, step touch and then some pointing.
You can't really compare to another show choir because it is a whole different style that almost no one see's. They have great vocals and are clean, but their choreo doesn't seem like it exutes a whole lot of energy and therefore able to get incredible vocals. again, what they do, they do very well, but its just such a hard style of show to judge.

Omg, this comp was wicked awesome. Our hosts, Sarah, Jared and ETC, they were so helpful, I cannot explain the amount of support and help they gave us. I am upset it is my sen10r year :/ I wish I could return.
