If i don't get to see WV's ballad live this year, i will be highly depressed. That was fantastic! Great solosits. I have a feeling both Male and Female soloist awards will go to WV (guy in the opener and girl in the ballad) but i can see the ballad soloist for Janesville taking it too.
Thanks everyone! I know the current members of Spots will be happy to see these comments. It's been a lot of work building this program into one that's able to compete with anyone. A few years ago we started to place well, and every year Ben is able to try new things in ours shows to keep us improving.
Side note: I don't think the feed was able to keep up the Spots' intensity. It was the worst picture I've seen today
My feelings on Sauk is that it is such a hard show to judge. They do what they do very well but to me its a lot of step touch, step touch and then some pointing.
You can't really compare to another show choir because it is a whole different style that almost no one see's. They have great vocals and are clean, but their choreo doesn't seem like it exutes a whole lot of energy and therefore able to get incredible vocals. again, what they do, they do very well, but its just such a hard style of show to judge.
Thoughts so far:
Agreeing with Alex and Haak, I really like this live feed. It's a great new excuse for procrastinating and it's fun to get to watch show choirs live without being cramped in a gym. That said, I would enjoy a little bit less lagging, but beggars can't be choosers.
Reedsburg's show was better than last year's at any rate, and I was impressed with Parkview's performance with such a small group. Even though I'm a Sage fan, I didn't think I would enjoy Mundelein as much as I did; they sang beautifully and the half-showsical thing was actually kind of fun. Waconia was solid and had boatloads of energy. WWS was, to be honest, a bit underwhelming (I really don't want to offend); maybe it's just because the feed was wonky for at least 1/2 of their show and because I'm not even watching it in person, but I wasn't feeling the usual passion and energy. Iowa City was really surprising to watch; I didn't know anything about them coming in, but their sound was great and they just really rocked their whole set.
I'm also digging the Macarena, Celine Dion, and the cookies bit.
Waconia has really loud fans.
I'm sad I don't get to see Sauk, Craig, WV, or finals, but can't wait to see how this turns out tonight!
I didn't get the connection to the first two songs, but they sounded really good. Strong soloists. I wish more competitions had live feeds, it's so much more fun.
Also, I think more competitions should offer live feeds and on demand video (which is to be posted tomorrow.)
I don't think this would hurt DVD sales at all. In fact, it might actually help, because people might watch and say, "I'd like to see that group with a better quality picture."
I also don't think it would hurt live attendance. Everyone who has ever been to a competition knows that being there in person is so much better than watching a video. What it really would do, however, would be to allow people from Wisconsin and Minnesota to see more schools from Indiana and Ohio, and vice versa.
