Hello, everyone. I'm sure you've all missed me (not really). It's been almost a year since I've posted anything. But since I was definitely at JC this past Saturday, I'll give input on the groups and tapes that I saw.
First of all, I must say that walking many treks from the auditorium to our home room in the humanities building across campus in the 20 degree weather with the wind chill in snow flurries was pretty brutal. As was loading our risers and backdrops at 10 o'clock that night, both of which have metal on them.
As far as groups that I saw in person, I saw three: Homewood, Jackson Academy, and South Jones. Aren't I helpful?
Homewood - Definitely not my favorite show of yours, but you guys did it well.
Jackson Academy - Good show, and the best you guys have ever been in my opinion. Had you had more volume, you would have placed better in Finals. But that's understandable for a group with only 6 or 7 guys.
South Jones - Personally, I didn't like the show, but I feel like this may be the best vocally that you guys have been in a while. The guys number and the closer were pretty solid.
I also caught a glance of Northeast on video in the lobby, and how they didn't make Finals, I'm not sure. They were MUCH improved from previous years. Great show. And great performance considering the circumstances. Dr. Myers is a classy guy, and I know he couldn't have been more proud of you guy. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with Dr. Myers and his family.
Unfortunately my Albertville friends, it worked out where you guys were a group or two ahead of us in prelims and finals, so I wasn't able to see you guys. I was told that yall are VERY impressive this year, and already in late year form. Very eager to see you guys. I'm also eager to see Petal. I've heard mixed feelings about their show, but obviously to get 1st runner-up, they weren't too shabby.
Congratulations to all groups that performed. And to South Jones for running a good competition. And to me for not facing a near death experience at this competition this year (staph in my eyes two years ago, almost being murdered by a riser last year). Adeeba dubba deeba dubba dubba that's all folks! (Key looney toons music)
Oh yeah and Albertville's band sounded amazing! None of the sound was blocked by the set. They make sure of that when designing the set and band placement every year!
Choreography is the art of designing sequences of movements in which motion, form, or both are specified.
Now let's see anyone argue their point as to why Albertville shouldn't have won best choreography. Obviously the judges know the definiteion or they wouldn't have given them that award. Yes, every choir their had some great choreography. But obviously the judges thought Albertville's was the best. I agree that we should be congratulating each other here. Not tearing each other down. So congrats to everyone on some really awesome shows! And congrats to everyone who placed, won an award, or even didn't place. Cuz there were some awesome choirs that didn't place too!
The best band would have probably gone to Albertville too. That closer. Dang.
To call what Albertville had a band is kind of misleading, it was way closer to an Orchestra. I'd be curious to know from someone in the auditorium how they sounded, cause on the closer they were making some serious sound. My guess is the wall they had up was knocking the sound backward and away from the crowd.
i just realized that they didn't give out one... hmm... not sure bout it tho... so many to choose from...

By the way...I haven't heard any mention of a best band award here.

Thanks! Sorry if some of imagination's members come off as rude they were just shocked with some of the results... Anyways, cody you never told us your opinion I'm curious to hear because I usually agree with you about the majority of things.
Dear show choirhasbeen, what choir are you from? And by the way I am very pleased with the way west jones performed in both prelims and finals. I was very impressed with the way mizell's choir improved between prelims and finals according to what the judge's tapes said. By the way, I'm not arguing at all I just wanted another opinion on the matter. Thanks!
I was also pleased with "Imagination"'s performance. I LOVED the hip-hop ho-down!

This is so ridiculous. Why can't people just be happy when they did their best and stop ripping other choirs' shows apart. The judges made their decision and that is that. Why don't you try congratulating each other for a change instead of arguing about who deserved a 6 inch little trophy. I've been around for a while and most every choir I know of has had their year in the spotlight. Do you want people questioning if you deserve it when it is your turn to win the trophy?
What I'm confused about is how in prelims 3 judges had west in 2nd and in finals west jones performed much better than in prims. However, in finals all 5 judges had west in 4th. Does anyone have any clue why this happened? Doesn't make since in my opinion.
Was the night show scored or ranked? When did West Jones perform in the finals order? There a lot of reasons why West Jones did not maintain or improve their standing from day to night. All they can do is feel happy with their improved performance and wait to see how they're judged.
