I agree with sings4fun! Of all the WVMEA State Competitions I've been to (since about 1997).. I can't recall there ever being 6 schools to receive a superior rating. Usually its the top 2 or 3 schools that receive this honor. Six schools is a tremendous accomplishment and really proves how far West Virginia show choir has come over the years! Congratulations to Poca "Visual Volume" on their Grand Championship, and to everyone else for a job very well done on Saturday. West Virginia has lots to be proud of.

Why would you accuse a school who is having a good year of 'fixing' the competition? Hurricane - you won both years you hosted, Martinsburg - same thing. Did you fix the competitions those years? No. Were you probably accused of that? Yes.
Would it be better to cancel the whole event because no other director will step up and deal with the headaches of the hosting this competition? It's a no win situation for the host school or director. Maybe the WVMEA could REQUIRE each school to host it.

This was the first year I ever remember six WV choirs having superior ratings - that's a huge step forward for WV show choir. Congratulations to all the directors for making WV choirs forces to reckoned with.

Congratulations to all the schools who competed and made it a great competition-it was a great day of entertainment. Congratulations to Poca Visual Volume for being the 2009 Grand Champs. Contrary to the sour grapes you may be hearing - you deserved to win it.

Oh of course they were. Any time a school has hosted and won they were accused of cheating. Same old accusations that happen every year. I would have thought some folks had moved past these types of posts.

That would be a question to take up with the WVMEA.

In agreement 100%.

Agreed. Becuase it has been such an issue this year does not mean it is the situation here. Please dont try to create rumors that could end someones career. E. Lynn Knoble is a wonderful woman who has earned her respect in this industry and should be shown it. I would have her at every competition if it were possible. Read her comments and listen to her tapes before you pass judgement.

And remember the best and worst thing about show choir is that it is totally subjective!

I guess the fix will be in for Poca next year too. Oh I mean the competiton will be hosted by Poca next year. If anyone goes. Martinsburg was clearly the best group today what a joke. Poca has a good show but not to Martinsburg's level. Does Poca go anywhere Lynn Knoble doesn't judge??????

Poca was at the ARTS Classic this year where they earned their other GC without Lynn Knoble being there... I agree with katestir12.... To make assumptions about such prestigious judges and directors is going too far... Great job Poca and all the other particpating choirs!!!

God, some people here can't stand that Poca won, can they?

IMO, they just took back their spot as the top choir in the state.

Well done, Kincaid. Your alumni are pleased,

The defending champs should always go last, having said that Mr. Kinkaid had Hurricane going on at 2:15, fishy?

Congratulations to Poca High school for winning States, maybe next year my school can host it so we can win? Haha good job kinkaid you bought your state title!!! You should be proud

Poca will be hosting the state competition for two more years and the competitions will be at the civic center from now on. the only reason it was at the school is because the whole civic center was booked. WVMEA has always been held at a school up until last year when our director, Kincaid, moved it to the civic center. so this conflict of interest of the competition at our school is not a new one. our judges were excellent and Kincaid would never allow anything to be "fixed"

I was there yesterday. Poca was one of three schools that I believed COULD have been given the GC trophy. Those judges are top-notch - and likely would've gone with someone else if they were equal just to keep away from the inference.

Excellent performances by many, many groups. Poca deserves congratulations, and owes no apologies.

I think the question was why does Poca get to host for the next two years. Believe me, we all know that Kincaid is the new chairman. That is quite evident.

I never comment on any of these, but I have to say from reading these posts .....wonder why no directors stepped up and wanted to host States?!?!

Why can't we be more like California choirs? Seriously, there's nothing but love between all of them. If only...

Regarding the change in the chairperson position, obviously people can't be THAT unhappy considering the change had to be approved in the first place, and then Mr. Kincaid had to be voted to host for another 2 years. I wasn't there yesterday, but from what I have seen in the past few months Poca is having a great year. It seems a bit unfair to accuse Poca of "fixing" the competiton simply because they did well. And considering who was judging at this competition I doubt they would be the types to "fix" their scores, not that Mr. Kincaid would try. Maybe it's time for people in this state to start congratulating each other on a job well done instead of accusing one another of foul play.

That's the way it used to be but Kincaid got the rules changed so that it is now a vote instead of a rotating schedule. He proposed that Poca host for the next two years and no one at the WVMEA conference objected.

From what I hear through the rumor mill Mr. Kincaid didn't get the rules changed, the association just chose to ignore the rules since no one else would take the position. What a shame I can't imagine why there was not one other director who would want the opportunity to host the states for two years, but then again it may just be a huge pain in the butt.

Mr. Kincaid is the chairperson of the competition for the next two years. It is my understanding that no else wanted the position.
