i dunno if this goes under the exact same category as the rules ISSMA stated, but actual scoring from ISSMA state is not to be posted anywhere online or your associated choir can be disqualified for state for the next year.
As i stated before i do not know if point spreads count or not...just being precautious

Why aren't they open about it?

I agree Columbia City did a GREAT job, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting it to be us, Dekalb, and Busco competing in finals. :>

I think all the judges were looking for a louder sound. Im not sure if all the judges would have had them in 1 place prelims. Even so, the top 4 choirs were within 2 points. I think that is ridiculous.
I also heard that NC Counterpoints have people that just stand backstage to specifically sing and not dance. Is that true? I know their number of people is in the 60s but I didnt know if they did that or not.
I personally think that Carmel should have made finals over Ben Davis. That is just my opinion.

It's true...

Ben Davis was loud... but not impressive... Carmel had many more "musical moments" and their choreo was a bit cleaner than BD's in my opinion (definitely more difficult)

A bunch of people are commenting on the judging so i wanted to add my two cents in. If the actual scores that were posted are correct, then North Central won by 6.3 points. For show choir, this is a pretty big margin (especially considering the top 3 were only a point apart and Carmel missed out from being a finalist by .2 in prelims).

Also, if what i have heard is correct, every judge had NC in first place, which is also a pretty hefty feat. Judges almost never agree, there are numerous times where more judges will have the 2nd place choir in 1st but the judges that had them in second had them so far behind that a different choir turns out to be the victor. So for all 4 (5 if you include the instrumental judge since NC got best band) had NC in 1st, it appears to me like this has been one of the most objective competions (especially considering the caliber of the choirs that were there) in a while.

To Laurel, Emma, and Spencer!

I am so excited to see the show at FAME NYC, last year at FAME Chicago you guys were my favorite group . If you guys are serious about the private showing of "Closer", Adam and I are totally down for it (and would be honored to watch). Look for us at FAME, we'll be on the look out for you guys too!

I haven't een around since 2001, but i have been around 2005 i think i know what u mean but im not exactly sure. So elaborate will you?

Just that the ISSMA scoresheet makes every contest unpredictable... The best of judges can make a mistake and immediately one group is out of finals. It is far too objective...

I can't even bring myself to explain this again...

See my post on the "Ben Davis Giant spectacular" topic...

I fully outlined my issues with the issma scoresheet there. I mean for godsake I am going to school to be a director, and even i have a problem with how much credit the ISSMA scoresheet gives to the director...

The problem is that if you've been around Indiana show choir since 2001 you know that there's a reason NC scored 12 points higher in finals than in prelims...

you can also scream "emma" or "latestplague" (that's me...duh) OR "TJ FORD" (because i saw him creeping on here moments ago...) or "spencer" (who i also saw creeping). we'll all answer, though i doubt it'll be me you want to see perform closer, 'cause i'm in the back two rows for the majority of the set and lack any sense of hip hop rhythm ;) hahahahaaa see you in new york!

most deffinately, call out spencer, or Quale, or even, HEY BLOND GUY, ill answer.
i admit its a little silly to talk about how much i love show choir on here. considering that its a forum for show choir and that if your on here at all, the chances are that you love show choir. but this is my first year, and i have an incredible experience. Saturday was a great day, every group there was fantastic, and filled with very nice and classy people. Judging and announcing misshaps, and subjectivity, and bashing, aside, show choir is an amazing thing to be a part of, and it brings people together like nothing else.

ISSMA, oh ISSMA.

The judging is just off. I'm not suggesting there's a conspiracy or anything like that, but the process for picking judges is strange to me.

For all of the qualification competitions the judges are almost exclusively Indiana show choir people, or at least work with Indiana choirs a great deal. And for the state competition it seems ISSMA actively searches for people that have no basis in Indiana show choir.

I'm not one to say which method is better, but I do think it provides for inconsistent results. Judges that work in Indiana are likely to have a different view than judges who don't. Either every qualification competition should use out-of-state judges or ISSMA should start using judges from Indiana.

I agree with u. i understand that issma is attempting to get rid of biases but it is not working because many times the groups that when are nationally known. Not discounting NC, Carmel, or FC's when just saying. So if the judging at qualifiers are indy judges then it would only make sense that the state judges are from indiana as well. I can understand not using judges that have judged at more than one indy comp but to get totally random, in the sense of not really knowing indiana show choir, is kinda weird. It shows that these judges, like most in national comps, prefer groups with large sounding, in your face vocals rather than a classic choral sound. in the past 5ys of state the only "classical choir to when was Carmel Ambassadors in 07 an 08. NC is a very great an dynamic group but what is o wrong with classical singing. i have had issues with state since 2006 something always seems to be off but is not really fixed.

i am very happy about all the choirs that performed esp CS an Sweets as well as HV.

This was a reallygood season, although i missed all of it, but many choirs had many GC's and it was good. It just sucks that state is not a comp that is a equal to others as far as judgin goes

'Closer,' as far as I know, WILL be performed at our end of the year show on May 16 at 7:00 p.m. and we WILL have it posted on Youtube.

Although CP loves Closer, we are overall very happy with the change to 'Devil.'

p.s.- FC, you people are awesome! Good times while we were both waiting to crew the girls' choirs.

dude that was good times!! that was sooo funny!! sorry about our member...lol

Can I just ask, because im new to show choir, why everyone makes such a big deal out of the counterpoints? I think they are amazing but I always wonder why they are put on such a high pedestal? I feel that there are groups who always get so much credit based on their past. Im sorry but there are groups swept three competitions and I dont see how CP is so special because they win state, the only competition they won this season... I dont understand that someone explain to me? Like LC and Carmel won 3 competitons this season... FINDLEY? CENTER GROVE? I just think everyone should be happy for CP but not place them on such a high cloud... thats my oppinion... But SERIOUSLY CP WAS SOOO GOOD AT STATE!

Without getting too off topic can you explain by "having trouble keeping your numbers up"? I'm just curious about the size of your choirs with 1300 students at your school

Actually, I think our problem with numbers go back to TERRIBLE direction at the Jr. High level but THAT is a different story for a different forum haha. We have around 100-120 enrolled in choir overall with 50 in B et B alone. However, next year will be our first year with a full women's show choir. My sophmore year she made B et B into a Show/concert choir , kept Les Chanteuses a women's concert choir and then we had two beginner choruses, one for men and one for women. This year, she combined men and women's and added a piano class. Next year, we will have a Mixed AND a women's show choir, as well as our beginner concert choir.
