Edit: i'm sorry, i shouldn't have said boo... NC is a fantastic program and i'm sure they stepped it up and Won like the champions they are. I have to say i'm a little sad though... The direction NC's show took at the beginning of the season seemed incredible to me, the show design, doing the ballad at the end of the show, keeping the pace up and the audience interested the entire time, then ending with a phenomenal display of vocals. I just really felt like NC sold out when they realized they might not win State a second year, and just decided to go back to normal Show choir format. Not to mention doing exactly the same number, in the same order, with the same arrangement (Vocals and horns) AND the same choreography, as 5 years earlier... Maybe some people have forgotten... i haven't...
I'm going to vote that Dekalb needs to compete in Large Mixed lol...
Plainfield is clearly the best choir in indy's "Small Mixed" category. The fact that Dekalb over the years has beaten MANY of this years top 6 Large mixed choirs over the past 5 or 6 years makes this a little bit unfair.
They're hardly a small mixed group.
Yes, i understand that the classes are based on the ISSMA Band enrollment limits... This doesn't make much sense for show choir though.
Anyone who's a big fan of North Central's "The Devil You Know" might be interested in this video.
It's their 2005 version which showcases much much cleaner choir, and you can even tell how much better the vocals were on VIDEO. Oh, and you can watch it in high quality.
CAN'T WAIT for my dvd to come so i can post this year's "The Devil You Know" right next to the 2005 version.
It's nearly identical. The start off in a slightly different block during the transition into it, but other than that...
Edit: um, might help if i actually gave you the link...

OH
Single-Gender Finalists:
Carmel Accents
North Central Descants
Franklin Central High Voltage
So there are only 3 finalists, and Carmel wasn't one of them? BD, FC, and NC must have all put on really good shows.
I also feel bad for Warren Central. There could have been a much better way to handle that.
If i remember right, it was Waconia "Star Power" competition in 2006, where the choirs had already left the venue before a calculation error was found that moved the 2nd place choir to GC and the GC choir to 2nd place...
I'm not sure if thats how it went down but i think it was Bemidji and Totino Grace
great job to all of the choirs today. definitely all top notch groups.
first....Northrop: Wow. i honestly didnt know what to expect...but i loved your vocals. your opener and closer were great. great job. it was nice seeing your show this year.
NC: i personally LOVED the changes. yes i know that "Devil You Know" has been used by NC in 05 (04?) and 01...but hey...they wanted to replace a song (cant remember the name right now) and you do what you have to do. it worked. the show worked a lot better and it just went up and up. the ballad AMAZING again...best version of the song (out of the 3 groups that did it today ). i dont understand the bow after the ballad and then doing Peace in the Valley....but once i got over the confusion i loved it. i definitely had you in my top three. great job.
BD: Vocals were unbelievable! i love the first two songs of your show. I can see why the judges put you where they did. i personally had you at 5th, because i feel like your show stays at the same level the whole time. but that is probably because ive seen it numerous times...also because Carry On My Wayward Son is done alot and after watching Wabonsie Valley do I Want It All Back, i dont think anyone can live up to that in my head. I am SO happy for you guys and your program...a class program and a class director. great work Premiers and Mr. Cremeans.
FC: Wow. first time seeing you live...amazing. i definitely had you first vocally. you were also in my top three and i really hope you do well in finals to end another great season for you guys. the choreo in your show was the cleanest of the day. i loved watching you all dance. always entertaining. great job to all of you.
Carmel: first time seeing you live...but i must admit i was a little underwhelmed. i feel like your show was missing the energy it needed to get over the top. it had all the aspects of a great show, but i feel like today, there just wasnt the necessary energy or urgency. but great season and great performance.
Pike: my babies. best performance of the year. hands down. the changes you made blew me away...i didnt expect any of that. the opener was a million times better and im sad you didnt make finals. however a 5th place finish is an amazing way to finish the season especially looking at the company that you are keeping! Concert choir season now...how bout bringin home a state championship there?
Warren: what happened at awards is terrible and i feel so badly for that. but you all had a great performance. i heard that you got 10th (which i find hard to believe) but i dont think you should have been that low. today was rough for you...but keep your heads up and get ready for concert choir season. great show Mr. P and Connection.
ISSMA: i feel that the judging was fair. i didnt see anything outrageous results wise. but the way of announcing finalists could be done better. could we not give everyone participation and then draw names from a hat or do random order afterwards so that mistakes like this dont happen. announcing finalists as you went through performance order was awkward for me personally. i think this should be more like a regular competition. all the participation, then announce the finalists after. however the way ISSMA works (which is very efficiently and professionally) im not worried about this happening in the future. overall it was a well run and well organized competition.
I mentioned in my first post, that I got a flat tire on the way to LC and ended up being 45 minutes late to the competition. I MISSED Pike and Northrup... You have NO IDEA HOW MIFFED I WAS!!!!
oh dang...that sucks! pike made lots of changes vocally and it sounded a LOT better. i just hate that they had the fate of going first because i personally think they did better than ben davis, but ben davis had a good peformance time. and im really not being biased when i say this, because i didnt even have my group in finals. do not get me wrong, they were amazing and they've had a great season that they should be proud of, but my three choices (FC, NC, and Carmel) are just very top choirs.
wocttocs....im interested in what you thought about pike...
because i thought their energy was WAY up there, and it needed to be since they went first.
and the changes the made in their show made it 100 times better...
but you still had ben davis in front of pike?
I mentioned in my first post, that I got a flat tire on the way to LC and ended up being 45 minutes late to the competition. I MISSED Pike and Northrup... You have NO IDEA HOW MIFFED I WAS!!!!
Edit: Apparently i did NOT say that in my first post... Meant to...
is this your placings or the actuall I heard that huntington north got 6th place and not LC
If those were the correct placings during the day then I HAVE NO IDEA whats going on with the judges...
NC's show was great! I'm not trying to take anything away from them, but they really didn't sing well to start the show or the 2nd number... The 2005 choir from NC sang "The Devil You Know" much better, and since its exactly the same, i am CERTAINLY able to make that comment. the band was great and the energy was there, it was just sloppy. The show flows worse now than it did before in my opinion... I just don't know, i personally thought their performance in prelims at BD was 10 steps ahead of their show today...
Ben Davis did perform their show really well, but the vocal arrangements consisted of loud 4 part blocked (typical) chords... they WERE well balanced, but i don't necessarily think they sang as well as FC, HN, NC, or Carmel. i had them 4th MAYBE 3rd overall...
