I am just an observer and I am not with Lawrence Central or Center Grove or whoever you think I am with. I was just basing what I said off of earlier predictions in the Pike thread. I have not seen Center Grove's show, but I have seen Carmel's show at Huntington and Carroll. I would like to see them win because I love their show this year which is so different from their previous years shows. Then again I havent seen Center Grove's show and I wont make my opinion until I do. I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of this competition. It will be a great one =)

interestingly enough jarad choreographed "reign" for the show this year..so apparently fc didn't "get all of jarad's good stuff this year" <:

i was told that Marty did reign by a Pike student... Sorry if i was misinformed... I did like reign... I do like FC's opener much better. The staging and choreo are so much more interesting. Then when they start Bye Bye Blackbird vocally it's stunning and choreographically it's fosse to the max. So accurate and well done. Not pushed, not gimmicky, but cool and easy...

There are no finals for ISSMA state. All choirs perform, then are placed accordingly. The shore sheet is scored 60% vocal and 40% visual. Hope that helps!!

Can anyone tell me how State works? As in (1) Are there finals? and (2) if so, how many are usually taken?

lol. The difference between me and the rest of the show choir enthusiasts that have seen pike's show, is i actually like the Marty DeMott choreo for Column and Reign a WHOLE lot better than Jarad's choreography.

And i don't wonder why they get defensive... I'm a prick!

Right, and as i've stated all i'm going on are the videos that have been posted, and their prelims performance at BD. I would LOVE to see the BD finals vid so i could re compare the two. Would be really awesome of you if you'd put them up!!!

All thats up right now of FC is this junk....

im gonna try to put up some of what i have...but my computer is being messed up right now. but hopefully ill figure out whats wrong soon nd ill try to get up the FC first and then maybe Pike/warren/and-or BD...not NC cause i want to respect their right to wait till their show is where they want it to be at the end of the season (especially since theyve already changed their show order since BD).

that is a false statement. ill be the first to admit that there are DEFINITELY voice parts that are louder than the others, but the other parts are there. in the opener for instance, there are four parts for a lot of that, yes there is unison, but there are harmonies that are hard to hear on the Youtube version of the show...i just got my BD finals dvd, and the vocals are there. however, the vocals are, admittedly, no where near the quality of FC (whose show is/was amazing in my opinion)

Well actually, no i ain't "seen" the wrong show...

I know that in all but 1 number during pike's show, the footwork is nearly elementary... They NEVER sing in 4 parts unless they're standing still... The blocks hardly move (watch the closer 3 stage positions the entire song and all the men/women doing the same choreo). The combo arrangements are simple and not well played, and when the choir IS moving, they're singing in unison or in 2 parts...

HEy wocttocs or who ever you are, i have observed your comments for a while...what do you have against Pike cause i feel that you hate on them on the low..armography?? really?? lol i think you seen the wrong show, they are great and if you dont see that you need to learn how to observe better just my opinion

I have stated over and over again that i have no idea what i didn't see in pike's show at BD that got them the GC... For some reason judges like their simplistic show design and i don't quite get it. I'm not "anti pike" i've had a lot of friends come from Encores and Mystiques... I just really don't think their show is as "awesome" as everyone is making it out to be... EVEN at it's CLEANEST the show that is posted on youtube of them could never contend with the top 3 or 5 in the state, yet somehow, it did...

You mean like Marty DeMott and Jarad Voss?

Pike's vocal arrangements use a ton ton ton of unison and 2 part singing. The horn/combo arrangements are easy.

And you wonder why all the Pike people get defensive when you talk.

Sometimes1234 is from Chicago not Indianapolis, and is not a member of any Lawrence Central choir. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I don't think anyone can judge whether Carmel is number 1 in the state. They are competing at Pike this weekend against Center Grove, who was beaten by Lawrence Central last weekend. If Center Grove wins, which is what most people are predicting, Lawrence Central should be able to beat Carmel this year at state if Carmel was competing. I don't think a lot of people are predicting that Lawrence Central as winning ISSMA, though I have hopes for them, so Carmel may not even be considered to win ISSMA at all.

They have a lot to prove and defend at Pike, and then we can make judgements on their place in the state. If they lose, I think they should defend their title at state because they would have a lot to prove. They would already be defeated by Center Grove, an Indiana show choir group that is considered the top, if not the best.
If they don't compete at state, I think people would question if Lawrence Central would have been able to beat them. If Lawrence Central doesn't win state, people would question whether Carmel's place would have even lower than 1 runner up or below.

That is just my opinion. I just wish every top Indiana show choir competed at ISSMA so it would be a true test of which group is truly number 1 in the state of Indiana. Then I wouldn't have to speculate and guess who "would have" won "if" they competed based on other competitions, etc =).

As for those competing at ISSMA, I think that LC, FC, HN, and Pike are going to be around the top. Who knows about NC, because I haven't seen their revised show. Again, just my opinion.

i understand where you're coming from, but you have to remember...show choir is rarely logical...at least not geometry proofs logical (lawrence beats center grove, center grove beats carmel therefore lawrence beats carmel) i remember last year at NC's MIC competition Plainfield beat Carmel and then the next week at HN's competition, we didn't make finals and carmel GCed. idk if carmel's known for the last minute cleaning like nc is, but anything can happen in a week. i think anychoir who can do that in just seven days deserves a title of number 1 in state, personally.

best of luck to all choirs this weekend as they wait to hear who all made state. no matter who makes it, i forsee an unforgettable competition on the 21st.

Oh of course, i forgot about them... Well so many years we've gone without them in state, you kind of forget about them...

They're probably number 1 in the state...

You know what would really help prove your point??? Posting the 2 shows on Youtube... I'd really like to see it again.

As i said in my last post, I DON'T KNOW what i'm missing about pike... The diagonals are straight, the blocking is good... But overall the choreo IS much more simplistic than FC's. It's pretty easy to tell who got Jarad's good stuff this year. On top of that FC had Damon Brown in the mix with their choreo as well and i really think the 2 choreographers help a lot.

Pike's vocal arrangements use a ton ton ton of unison and 2 part singing. The horn/combo arrangements are easy. What pike does, is perform the crap out of their show... I'm not saying they don't do it well, i just think there's a reason they do it so well.

hahahaha

I've learned you just have to take everything Scott says with a grain of salt. Or just take some sedatives before reading his posts. lol That way you won't care anyways.
