I have seen all of these groups perform other than the fairfield girl group!!! And may I say that this is horrible!!! After learning what we have about Mitchell Finke, I'm wondering the validity of these results now!!! Twinsburg has one of there best shows in years and they finish 5th and lose to a Mitchell Finke group that is rebuilding in Hurricane?? Come on, (Twinsburg) their dancing is ridiculous again this year, and this is one of their best vocal years to date!!!

I now look at these results in a different light.... The top 3 should have been...

1. Fairfield or Twinsburg
2. Fairfield or Twinsburg
3. Garfield
And 4-6 could have gone anyway!!!

Anyone with a right mind knows that this assesment is correct!!! If you don't think it is, you obviously don't know show choir in the midwest!!!

I am absolutely sick and tired of this. Take this up somewhere else, in fact, there's an entire other thread about this. Let the show choirs that placed well have their glory.

Yes, Hurricane is down this year. Mrs. Edwards (one of the most talented directors in the East/Midwest) retired at the end of last year. But to even suggest that Hurricane cheated their way to second place Saturday is absolutely outlandish and wreckless.

For Hurricane to jump from 5th to 2nd, it would basically require someone to convince EVERY judge to bump them up, not just one.

Were/aren't you a choreographer yourself? A simple google search seems to indicate that you were the choreographer for Lakeland "New Wave" a few years back...

i would like to thank all of the Lebanon kids parents and their director for the competition last weekend it was probably the best one out of the year because how many good groups there were performing and to all the groups that made finals we should all be proud because it wasn't easy. but it was very worth it. and we all did it for the seniors.

adaweasal you need to calm down.
I saw every group in prelims and finals, I was in the auditorium ALL DAY.
Mitch never once spoke to ANY judges, every judge had assistants, I being one of them, and he never spoke to any of us about scores, or any of the judges.
quote>
Well he learned from his previous mistake. He may not have walked up to the judges in the auditorium...but he sure did have dinner with them and give the judges a visit in the judge's dinner room! And yep, that is the honest truth! Hurricane was fifth in prelims, but after getting a talking to from Mitch Finke, Hurricane ends up in 2nd with Best Choreography!

Puh-lease! adaweasel may be a little overexcited in his posts, but anyone who has seen these shows this years knows that these results are really odd.

Twinsburg almost beat Clinton this year. And yet they can't beat Hurricane?

Hurricane gets Best Choreography...over Twinsburg?

That's not suspicious at all right?

Those judges with the exception of Dan Prior were all Mitch Finke's buddies.

I'm not trying to take away form Hurricane's performance or anything. BUT PUH-LEASE, LET'S GET REAL FOR A SECOND.

This competition was obviously unfair. More groups than just Twinsburg thought about leaving. Bravo to Nancy Slife for actually doing it!

Adaweasel no offense man but what you're saying crazy. Every group that night performed a near perfect show and as you can see it came down to fractions of points. So Twinsburg's one mistake cost them. I'm sure it's very hard for them to stomach but it happens. But you are going out of line and need to quit putting all the other groups down cause they all worked off their butts to get what they got and just cause the finals didn't work out how you wanted them to doesn't give you any right to try to put us all down and take away from what we have all received.

I definitely agree... by the way, you all were awesome!!

What exactly makes a group elite?

I'd say each group has flaws and strengths. Each year in one form or another is a rebuilding year.

For example: Garfield Heights Music Express is an extremely talented group. I as a member of Edgewood have been to quite a few competitions with them, we know that Garfield is a big competitor. Two years ago Edgewood and Garfield were on equal grounds, Garfield would place above Edgewood and at the next competition Edgewood would place above Garfield.

No doubt that last year Garfield had a much stronger show than Edgewood. However, this year it's about equal again and that is why groups can finish ahead of behind each other from one week to the next.

Twinsburg has an amazing show - I love their sequenced synths, they even had best instrumentals of the day. No doubt that they are a fantastic group that should be considered elite.

But why can't other groups be considered elite? Why can't Hurricane, Garfield, or Edgewood make improvements that make them merit worthy of a "rockstar status"?

Every group that was in finals at Lebanon had extraordinary shows - to say that one group cheated to get into a higher place is crazy. Every judge indeed had Hurricane in second except one. The other judge had Edgewood in second. And the others place Edgewood in third. All of them had Fairfield first and Garfield around fourth.

Based on the consistency from the judges - I'm going to say all the results, no matter how surprising are very credible. Every group got exactly what they deserved.

This.

Topic over.

I'm not ruining the name of Hurricane!!! They did nothing wrong, I imagine they put up a good show!!! But it's hard for me to believe that a few technical difficulties result in a 3 spot drop!!! Sorry I don't buy it!!!

Twinsburg is on a completely different level then Hurricane!!!!

Sorry but it is the truth!!! Hurricane is having a down year!!!

Now they are still a great group!! But they are not elite, like Twinsburg was this year!!! And a few technical difficulities shouldn't sway a good panels final scoring!!!

I only have one question.... Why is it that because it is a rebuilding year for Hurricane makes them no longer elite? were you even there? I was at this competition and i saw all of the show choirs that were in finals except Fairfield and Garfield Heights, i did however see Fairfield in prelims and they were fantastic!, hurricanes energy in the finals show was outstanding they were there to win. Also, those of you who are saying that show choirs didn't deserve their placings, Edgewood, in prelims, one word WOW i love their show and it was the best i had ever seen them perform, a huge improvement from Cuyahoga!! they deserved best vocals, and as for hurricane and Fairfield tying for best choreo... both groups were extremely tight in their performances. again congratulations to Fairfield!! you all were amazing!! Overall, this was just an unexpectedly tough competition.

adaweasal you need to calm down.

There was no "Jill Larger" at our competition.
and your making these threads rediculous.

I won't let you ruin the name of Hurricane, and I sure as hell won't sit back and let you ruin our name and say that we sit back and let our choreographer cheat our way to the top.
I saw every group in prelims and finals, I was in the auditorium ALL DAY.
Mitch never once spoke to ANY judges, every judge had assistants, I being one of them, and he never spoke to any of us about scores, or any of the judges.

he sat in the back during Hurricane's performances, and I would like to point out that they ROCKED it.
Them and Fairfield gave so much heart into their performance they deserved top 2 hands down.
Twinsburg on the other hand new that they weren't going to attend awards and yes, they did extremely well, but with all the controversy, and the technical problems, it's natural they probably wouldn't do as well as a group that was really fighting.
and FYI, Twinsburg was in 2nd during prelims, Hurricane was in 5th.

So take a chill pill, and think about all the people -esp. Lebanon and Hurricane people- who are reading this.

I don't often post about controversy on SCC but this is getting ridiculous. How can anybody say that a group did not deserve to get a certain placement. I attended this competition and I can honestly say that Hurricane deserved to be 2nd place as much as any other group deserved their spot. Twinsburg had a long pause in between their first and second song which seemed the throw off the flow of the rest of their show. Every single judge but one had Hurricane in 2nd. So you're trying to say that Mitchell Finke went and talked to every judge except for one and told them to fix Hurricane's scores to make them get second place? This seems a bit farfetched to me. Show Choir competitions are full of surprises. It wouldn't be very fun to attend a show choir competition where the results were how you predicted every single time. Judges like different things and to say that a group "cheated" their way into a spot is ridiculous. I HIGHLY doubt that every judge except one would agree to bump a group's scores to make them place higher. That seems a bit risky to me.
