I thought that the "evil ice / snow storm" was the ONLY reason they expanded it. I wasn't aware they were keeping it that way.
Oh no! The posts in the thread pretty clearly indicated that they had opened it to 4A prior to the ice / snowstorm. Last year was the first year they were adding a 4A class.
Aparently Ottumwa, CR Prairie, and Marshalltown were all supposed to be there - but then had to back out due to the weather. I'm not sure if DM Roosevelt and Indianola were on the schedule prior to the weather event or not, though I know for sure that Johnston was NOT originally scheduled to go there and only went there when the school admin wouldn't allow them to go to CR Kennedy (due to the fact they were in school busses - and not chartered busses. At least - that was the reasoning I was told).
Regardless of who all was supposed to be there or not - or what class schools they are - let's all hope for NO MORE WEATHER COMPLICATIONS all around!!!
I thought this was cleared up last season when it was made known that SE Polk had started to expand their contest to include 4A schools. (though, then the evil ice / snow storm happened which confused things a bit as well).

I'm still baffled as to why a 4A group is competing at a normally 3A and under show choir competition.

I'm so glad to see the interest in the competition at Kennedy. Like all schools that host events, we work long and hard to make that day fun for everyone. This year, we are moving the middle schools to the auditorium. This will allow the middle schools not to have to start so early in the morning, and has allowed us to take a few more groups in the gym. Assuming we don't get iced out again, we will have the finalist schools choose their performance order based on their finish in the day. We also employ the "Fehr Fair" system where the consenses of the judging panel determines the placements, rather than traditional point or ranking systems. This system prevents one judge from causing the prevailing feeling of the entire panel to be nullified.
Our official registration deadline is September 30th, but we have enough verbal commitments from schools to declare the contest full. I can confirm the follow varsity groups have registered:
CR Jefferson
CR Washington
CR Xavier
Dubuque Wahlert
Totino Grace
Lincoln Southwest
Urbandale
All but Totino will also be bringing a prep group. There are three other schools who have made verbal commitments, but have not officially registered. I'll post those schools once they become official.
We are VERY excited by the line-up of the competition this year. We promise to do our best to make Kennedy a comfortable and efficient event. Thank you all for your support!
I know what you mean, the parking is killer there.. but the best thing about Kennedy for me is because I live about a block away I can just walk to the school, so no parking worries.
I'm anxious to see everyone. I heard there's changes all over the place (stylistically and staff wise). I'm not sure if it'd be worth losing parking to leave kennedy tho. last time I spent FOREVER looking for a spot.

OMG... I always left from the competitions in town, haha. However, I am anxious to see Jefferson.

Jeff's coming. I think we might be bringing meisters along with the two show choirs...but I'm not sure. I'll agree it's a pretty well-run comp, I just don't like being in town. You always know of other stuff in CR you can do but we're not supposed to leave so we end up stuck at the school. Which I guess, for some, that isn't a bad thing...but I don't really like watching show choirs all day.

This is really weird... but last night I had two dreams... The first was a dream where I was forming a gap in the top two front teeth. The second was like a replay of Washington competing at "Big Dance" in 2006. It was so strange!
I know... not really on topic... but Big Dance IS the same day as Kennedy, so I thought I'd share.
I think it's supposed to be for smaller schools. Johnston was supposed to compete at Kennedy last year, but they decided against making the trip over because of the icy weather. At the last minute they contacted SE Polk to see if they could compete there and they said come on over.
K. Cool. Kennedy should be stiff competition this year.
