I hope that everyone had a fun time and will come back next year. I give a Round of Applause to everyone who performed and a Round of Applause to Bemidji for an amazing performance.

I'm pretty sure that I speak for most of GTC that this was probably the best competition we want to all year. Unfortanetly, it's also our last, as we aren't lucky enough to have 7-8 comps a year. Of course, I'm pretty sure we could only handle about 1 more anyway, but this was great invitational to end our year with. I'm so glad I got to see some out of state groups, as we missed seeing Bemidji and Bloomington Jeff at other competitions due to warmup times, etc. I was pumped to see mitchell since I'd met Stephen Todd over the summer, and they did not dissapoint, they were great. All the groups gave really good performances, and I loved how Waconia could transform the gym into a great performance area, with the tv screens on both curtains, etc. I hope GTC and Showtime represented Iowa well, and hope that the groups return in the future.

Bemijdi,

You were wonderful and we were so impressed with your show... we had no problem taking second to such a great group.
Wauconia,

Thanks for being such phenomenal hosts. Your exhibition was showstopping and we're terrified to compete against you at Mundeline!! This has definitely been the best run competition I've been to this year and with the friendliest hosts. Thank you for everything, especially the great food and mirrors!!

can we still order videos from this competition? if so, how do we do it?!

The videotaping was done by BEC-TV in Bloomington, and their website is www.bectv.org--go to "contact us" and the e-mail address you see there will be for Tom Ringdal, the executive producer. Just send him an e-mail of your question and i'm sure he'll respond promptly. He's really nice, by the way...

I agree with Hannah. It was a great day. Congrats to everyone and congrats to to Bemidji for winning GC.

Also, Waubonsie your ballad was so great that it is like my favorite song now and I can not wait to see you in a couple of weeks.

nice, and even your chaperones
were friendly to us hosts.
i wish everyone could
have seen you guys at
your warm up before
finals. my jaw dropped
when you started singing
the prayer of the children

congratulations on moving up a place from
prelims to finals! it was a pleasure to host

Will that be the ballad for our competition as well? We're doing a final edit on the program today and tomorrow, so I'd like to make sure we have the correct song listed.

Hmm...I'll talk to my director and get back to you, I'm not sure if he's thought of that yet...

But the new ballad is "Somewhere Out There" and I'm pretty sure we'll do that one for the rest of the year. I just don't want to say anything without confirming it with Mr. Kelly, though.

Haha, did anyone notice that our ballad was different this time? A different song, maybe?

I'm pretty sure our singers had to learn it in a week...and plus we didn't have school on Friday... ;)

First, I have to say hey to our hosts! Girls, you did such an amazing job hosting- our room was wonderful (duh, it won the decorating contest!), you were SO helpful, and SO supportive.

I think that hosting is one of the things Waconia does best with at their competitions- we have had great hosts every year. I don't know if they make you guys take a class or something, but whatever you do, it's working! All of our questions were answered promptly and correctly, you girls were always around when we needed you, and you took the time to get to know our kids- all very awesome things which we REALLY appreciate!

Second, congrats to all of Waconia, and especially Aaron, on a great competition.

The gym was really set up with nice sound this year, and the facilities for performing and warming up were great. I know you had less groups than you have had the past few years, and quite frankly, I think it served the competition well. It never felt crazy or overcrowded, but there were still a good crowd for the majority of the competition. You didn't run out of food- all of the finalists got to eat dinner!!! It's sad that having dinner available for everyone is uncommon, but it is, so thank you for not skimping on that.

Aaron, I know we chatted about this, but I really do appreciate the scoresheet you have. I think most directors would agree that a more thorough, developed scoresheet is really important in making show choir an education experience for students AND directors, and I think your scoresheet does a wonderful job of that. Thanks for putting the video critique camera in the center this year- it was nice to see the wide-angle, "director's cut" of our show instead of seeing it from a weird angle off to the side.

Oh, and thanks for helping us get our stuff back today- sorry we left a bunch of our crap there lol! Star Power is definitely an accomodating and helpful competition from beginning to AFTER the end!

Lastly, yay Encore!! Our division was really tough- I think like four of the groups we went against had already won their division at least once at other competitions this year. It was definitely a close competition! And a big yay for being 6th with two judges!

Oh, one more thing... I just wanted to correct whoever said there was only 7 open class groups- there were actually 8. I tend to agree with people who think taking 5 Open class groups and 1 prep group for finals seems silly, but Waconia DOES take the top 6 groups- which is the standard number for most competition finals- it's not like anyone who would typically make finals because of their placement is being cut out. It's just kind of an added incentive for the groups in class A, and a very cool experience for kids who may not otherwise get to compete in a finals competition- PLUS it gives the Open class finalists a bit more time to get ready before they have to perform again.

Just kidding- I can't believe I forgot this: BEMIDJI!! Congratulations!!!!! I'm so excited for you guys- you REALLY stepped everything up in finals, and gave a GREAT show! Your vocals are always so easy on my ears- and with all the choreo you have, most other groups would just shout their way through it. Thanks for using restraint and continuing to produce a beautiful sound. I have been telling people that I think April gave you some amazing choreography, but I have to say, I think you really make it special with your approach to it. Kevin, I tried to find you at the end of the night to say congrats, but hopefully you were off celebrating another great competition with both of your groups! Can't wait to see you all at Spectacular!
Just my thoughts... I'm sleepy now!

Ana

I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself at Star Power! Katie and I were so glad that we had the privilege to host ENCORE. I think all the students in the group are amazing and have so much talent and their optimism and energy was wonderful! They made Katie and I feel like family and we loved it! We felt so lucky that we had a group that was so much like ours...just like a big family. It was so much fun! I hope you can read this to them and just tell them that we're looking forward to seeing all of them in a couple weeks! I am so excited! I can't wait!!! Congratulations in your success! We are so proud of all of you! YAY!

Your host,
Ashlei
