hmm well...lets just say the judges aren't particularly fond of us

Refresh my memory and tell me what place you took last year. It seems to me that Sauk prairie has always done well in Waconia.

P.S. LOL totino people for who's hosting us. Last year our room was AMAZING!! and the hosts were so friendly! Keep it up!

Hehe....yea, there's a bit of a battle going on for who's gonna host your room...apparently everyone loves Bemidji! Not surprising, since you guys are always super nice and your show is incredible

Hooray to a great competition! Thanx so much to our hosts!! You guys were really helpful. I didn't get to see anyone perform besides Waconia, who did a wonderful job. Your opener is SOOO energetic. I was grooving in my seat and getting some odd looks from the people around me .

Jefferson- I hope I can see you at totino because I always LOVE your shows.

Mr. olson said that there was no best band award because there was no band judge....but he wanted one!!

Bemidji - Congrats on gc! Your show was amazing. I especially loved the sound your band had - totally added to the into the jungle idea ... Good luck with the remainder of your season!

First, I have to say hey to our hosts! Girls, you did such an amazing job hosting- our room was wonderful (duh, it won the decorating contest!), you were SO helpful, and SO supportive.

I think that hosting is one of the things Waconia does best with at their competitions- we have had great hosts every year. I don't know if they make you guys take a class or something, but whatever you do, it's working! All of our questions were answered promptly and correctly, you girls were always around when we needed you, and you took the time to get to know our kids- all very awesome things which we REALLY appreciate!

Second, congrats to all of Waconia, and especially Aaron, on a great competition.

The gym was really set up with nice sound this year, and the facilities for performing and warming up were great. I know you had less groups than you have had the past few years, and quite frankly, I think it served the competition well. It never felt crazy or overcrowded, but there were still a good crowd for the majority of the competition. You didn't run out of food- all of the finalists got to eat dinner!!! It's sad that having dinner available for everyone is uncommon, but it is, so thank you for not skimping on that.

Aaron, I know we chatted about this, but I really do appreciate the scoresheet you have. I think most directors would agree that a more thorough, developed scoresheet is really important in making show choir an education experience for students AND directors, and I think your scoresheet does a wonderful job of that. Thanks for putting the video critique camera in the center this year- it was nice to see the wide-angle, "director's cut" of our show instead of seeing it from a weird angle off to the side.

Oh, and thanks for helping us get our stuff back today- sorry we left a bunch of our crap there lol! Star Power is definitely an accomodating and helpful competition from beginning to AFTER the end!

Lastly, yay Encore!! Our division was really tough- I think like four of the groups we went against had already won their division at least once at other competitions this year. It was definitely a close competition! And a big yay for being 6th with two judges!

Oh, one more thing... I just wanted to correct whoever said there was only 7 open class groups- there were actually 8. I tend to agree with people who think taking 5 Open class groups and 1 prep group for finals seems silly, but Waconia DOES take the top 6 groups- which is the standard number for most competition finals- it's not like anyone who would typically make finals because of their placement is being cut out. It's just kind of an added incentive for the groups in class A, and a very cool experience for kids who may not otherwise get to compete in a finals competition- PLUS it gives the Open class finalists a bit more time to get ready before they have to perform again.

Just kidding- I can't believe I forgot this: BEMIDJI!! Congratulations!!!!! I'm so excited for you guys- you REALLY stepped everything up in finals, and gave a GREAT show! Your vocals are always so easy on my ears- and with all the choreo you have, most other groups would just shout their way through it. Thanks for using restraint and continuing to produce a beautiful sound. I have been telling people that I think April gave you some amazing choreography, but I have to say, I think you really make it special with your approach to it. Kevin, I tried to find you at the end of the night to say congrats, but hopefully you were off celebrating another great competition with both of your groups! Can't wait to see you all at Spectacular!

Just my thoughts... I'm sleepy now!

Well... I'm sorry I'm not an uber dork like you who has enough time to read EVERYTHING and makes his guests wait until he's done posting about Great River until we could leave for dinner.

Love ya!

my thoughts...

so i read through comments etc, i feel bad for saying that this competition was highly disapointing for me. placings do not matter what so ever, but it was just a very interesting day.

i didnt see any of the class a groups but when our girls placed last, i was really shocked. i dont know if anyone remembers that YTBN has been doing a FABULOUS job this year. Getting grand champ/1st runner up at almost every competition in class a. that was a shocker.

going into finals i had NO idea that the winner of class a would be actually competing along with the open class. to me that is odd and not right. im sure totino did an amazing job (i didnt see you guys but im sure its true), but aren't the class a groups in that class for a reason? i dont know...i feel that since there were only 7 groups in open class overall, the 7th competing spot should've been St.Paul. or maybe just having the winner of class A do exhibition.
most of the competitions we've been to this year, we've gone first into finals after performing almost last in pre-lims. its funny because most of our members guessed that that would happen! we're always happy to perform whenever, i'll have you know ;)

awards werent anything shocking for us. we knew what we had placed and of course we accepted that.

Bemidji- Outstanding show. your choreography was flawless. i really enjoyed the opening formations and i was shocked at how small your group appeared! but then you came out of those hiding spots and revealed an awesome guy to girl ratio! costuming was a little flashy for me, but none the less bemidji style. i'll have to admit, for the number of people you have in your group, i expected a lot bigger of sound out of you guys (note: i was in the back bleachers so that could've been the reason). nice show!

Waconia- awe you guys are cute! didnt see your show until your competition, and during the day performance i was a little skeptical on the whole thing. after the night show, however i was very excited for you. nice nice nice job!

overall, nice competition. as usual, very organized and well run. parents there are so nice!
because of little reasons, i do believe my director said that both YTBN and Executive Session will not be attending Waconia in the following years (dont quote me on that one!)
great day, great shopping today! good luck to all groups who still have competitions left!

From my understanding, there wasn't a Best Band award, because there was no band judge.

Also, I'd like to congratulate everyone who participated yesterday, and to thank Waconia. It was a great time!
