But back to the comp, is anyone else surprised with the results?? i mean no offense to Mundeleine (I didnt get to see there show) but i thought twinsberg and & mtz would take gc and 1st ru for sure.
El Paso received news just before the competition that a member of their school -- not a show choir member, but a student -- had passed away. It's my understanding that they're a somewhat small and close-knit community and this was a hard loss, so they chose to not to attend the competition.

Speaking for myself but also hopefully the Mundelein Show Choirs (Sound, Lights, SoundFX) and their combo, crew, faculty & involved parents, I want to applaud our hosts at Pekin in keeping their act together inside while the nasty weather blew outside. You were professional, helpful & had a can-do attitude that was much appreciated.

Anyone know where Palatine has been this year? They've been pretty good the last couple years and I'm curious if anyone's seen them yet.
This is their first competition of the season! I haven't seen their show since the beginning of November, so I can't wait to see what they've done with it.

Sorry to disappoint my SCC buddies...
The Chesterton "Drifters" and "Sandpipers" have pulled out of the Pekin Invitational as of this afternoon. We've experienced a great deal of illness and several school cancellations this week; also, part of our band was going to be absent due to the ISSMA solo and ensemble state finals in Indianapolis which also take place on Saturday. Our school policy is such that students must attend all day on Thursday to be eligible for competitions where we depart on Friday, and we had many members of both groups who were too ill to attend school today. Our decision to withdraw is unfortunate but necessary, and we extend a sincere apology to the Pekin folks whom we've inconvenienced.
Best of luck to all groups competing there this weekend!

I'm really sorry for your group and any other groups who have to cancel out on a last minute's notice due to uncontrollable circumstances such as weather and illness. I know it's especially hard on seniors who want to savor every last minute of their final show choir season. I remember when our group had to pull out of a competition at the last minute four years ago due to a snowstorm and how devastated the kids were. The good news was they got to attend turnabout which they were originally going to miss, but I'm sure given their choices, they'd pick a competition any day. It really has been an unpredictable week with the weather in the Midwest and East. Good luck to you the rest of your season, and may the your remaining trips be uneventful (in a good way).
