So how did the Totino people enjoy the Crowne Plaza and the city of Cedar Rapids? Seems like you guys see a lot of CR competing regularly at Linn-Mar and Washington or Jefferson!

WOW! Yesterday was so much fun! Once again another great competition (we seem to be doing well at picking out fun competitions this year...). All the groups were awesome; here are just a few thoughts:

Grand Island- You guys are such a fun group of people! Your finals show was so much fun to watch and Company really just enjoyed being able to bond with you guys this week. Great Job!

Encore- WOW! The fact that you made finals was awesome. You were just having a great time in finals and I hope you enjoyed that moment. Watching your show reminds me that the TG show choir program is going to be great for years to come. Congrats on a very successful season!

CR Jefferson Ovation- AWESOME show! Your show was very fun and entertaining. You are one of the best prep groups that I have seen in the past four years.

CR Jefferson WSD- Your singing was amazing! I could listen to your group sing for days. The commitment to a good vocal sound was great and I think you are a great example of how all groups should sing. Also, your band was AMAZING. They sounded like they weren't in high school.

These were the only groups that I was able to see, but I heard only good things about the other groups. Thank you Jefferson for hosting such a fun competition!

This competition rocked...I know we all had fun in Company, especially hanging with Grand Island. Our hosts were brilliant and the directors were very nice and helpful. I do have two concerns which I'd like to throw out there. Jorge mentioned the sound, which was inconsistent. What really threw me off was the lighting...Granted I am a lighting designer and I can be anal retentive about details, but the stage was INCREDIBLY hot, partially the close proximity of the instruments and the fact that NONE of them were gelled. This also made everyone look quite off color from the video feeds. Other than that, I felt this competiton was very well run.

Grand Island-
you guys rock! keep on having fun on stage. Thanks for the money whoever threw it in my guitar case. Haha, that was awesome. Your group is filled with energy and fun on and off stage. Your director is pretty awesome as well

Sioux City-
Because of the order our groups performed, I did not get to see your show. I only heard amazing compliments about it, and considering your choreographer, you guys rock!

Encore-
WOOO! Playing guitar for you kids has been so much fun this year and last year. Keep on doing what you're doing and Totino will have a strong show choir for years.

That's all I've got for now...
-Tom

I have to say, Snuff The Girl is my favorite song in your show, its just soooooo much fun.

Here are some of my thoughts from yesterday-
I agree with Chris, "Snuff That Girl" is my favorite song in the show (I love Claire's solo!). Also... the opener is without a doubt the best "Who Loves You" performed all year. Congrats on the well deserved win (and prep group in finals)!!! Good luck in Nashville.

East... seeing you at Onalaska and now is like night and day. You all are wonderful! The vocals were beautiful, and the flips at the end were quite crazy! Great job... Megan is the best performer!

One really nice surprise of the day was Grand Island. Their new director is Eric Shepard. I can remember when I was a freshman in Davenport West "Harmonics" (our prep group), he choreographed our show. We never really saw or heard from him again (just when going to the UNL competition). Now he is a director!!! And a very successful one at that. I was very impressed with Grand Island... especially their vocals. The show wasn't my favorite... but the choreography was clean, the band sounded nice, and the vocals were really great.

West Deleware... It seems like you guys have on and off years. This one is an "on" year, I guess. I felt like the opener and ballad were the most solid songs. The opera novelty was wonderful, my favorite song in the show. The sound produced was great in that song. The other songs in the show were just flat for me. The closer was a major downer vocally and choreography wise... the only redeeming factor being the wonderful Cami Philgreen strutting her stuff. I bet her dad is going to miss having her in his show choir next year. Congrats WD! (I miss Mallory McCool... she was so sweet.)

The major downfall to this competition is the sound in the gym. It's probably the worst I have ever experienced at any show choir competition I have attended. Some of the microphones are ancient; looking to be old and busted ones that Bob Barker used on "The Price Is Right" and donated in the early 1970s as a tax write off.

I'm confused about 5th runner up? Day round results looked to have Davenport West in 6th... and Benton 10th...? Were the finalists picked in a different manner than the daytime scores?

Benton competed in the 3A class in the auditorium. They were the auditorium winner, making them the 6th spot in finals. Only five 4A groups were accepted into finals, one prep group beat almost half of the groups in 4A, so they were in finals too.
