I am from Waubonsie Valley and we have really improved since last year and I feel as if we can actually compete this year. We placed 7th at Milton last year and 7th at Sullivan we won Grand Champion at Manteno and are hoping to improve this year. This is our 2nd year of competition and we hope to make finals at Milton
Hence the "WV" in your account name. lol
I saw you all at Sullivan last year. I thought you all were very impressive if I remember right. My program with notes in it is at home, so I don't really remember. I will look at it sometime when I go home.
I'm just really curious... but where are you from WVshow choir99?

There IS a schedule... we just haven't received ours yet. I talked to someone who saw it, and this is all I was told.
Davenport Central goes right after the afternoon break.
We are right after them at 3:25pm.
Neenah is after us.
Cedar Rapids Washington is after them, and the last group to perform.

Oh Ana, like Totino had anything to worry about! I'm sure all of the judges will love you. I'm only personally worried about Momentum choreographically. Also, the judges last year seemed to differ in opinions on the April and Damon groups, so I'm also unsure about Davenport West and CR Kennedy.
Davenport West "West Connection" is no longer choreographed by April James.
Thanks for elaborating Jay. Your cryptic posts make me a bit paranoid sometimes!!

With the strength of the attending choirs this year the competition will be VERY stiff. One judge could change the ENTIRE competition. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not saying that the same judge will this year, or that the judge is unfit. Just that it COULD happen.
This is something I like about show choir, that every judge has influence. If they didn't, why would they be on the panel?
Ok, first of all I want to start off my reminding everyone that I am an alum of Washington High School and Momentum, and I no longer have any affiliation with the school, nor do my opinions reflect the opinions of anyone currently associated with the group.
Well let’s just remind everyone of last year’s results:
GC: Sauk Prairie
1RU: Cedar Rapids Washington
2RU: Waconia
3RU: Cedar Rapids Jefferson
4RU: Neenah
5RU: Bloomington Jefferson
Best Vocals: Cedar Rapids Washington
Best Choreography: Sauk Prairie
Best Band: Cedar Rapids Jefferson
The only real problem I have came with Jen Oundjian in the preliminary round. The only thing that was remotely similar to the other judges was Sauk Prairie had the highest choreography score. This is how the day went.
So Waubonsie Valley would’ve lept past Neenah into finals, Waconia and Bloomington Jefferson would switch spots, and the Cedar Rapids schools would switch spots. In fact, Washington would gain 35 points on Sauk Prairie. The finals scoring was much more close than the day round. It was clear by the scores that Washington had 1st in vocals and Sauk Prairie had 2nd in vocals- all judges placed vocals that way. It was also clear that Sauk Prairie had 1st in choreography, and it was due to choreography scores that Washington didn’t win.
Am I trying to say that my alma mater deserved the Grand Championship at Milton? No, not at all. Sauk Prairie deserved to win that competition. I am trying to say that, from what I see, because of one judge’s score, a group (Waubonsie Valley) was left out of finals and according to ALL other judges they deserved to make finals. They had rankings of, 5th, 5th, 7th, and 10th….. A little bit of a difference. And another group had rankings of 1st, 1st, 3rd, 7th. Conversely, a group got rankings of 11, 10, 10, and 6. I am just thinking ahead and wondering if this will happen again this year. I think it could very well happen. With the strength of the attending choirs this year the competition will be VERY stiff. One judge could change the ENTIRE competition. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not saying that the same judge will this year, or that the judge is unfit. Just that it COULD happen.

based off of what i know from the judges, it will all depend on the choreography judges and what they like. as i recall, last year the choreography judges had everyone placed so randomly they completely mixed up the results. also, if the vocal judges place a group or two higher than everyone else (like last year) that will help out a lot!
Jay, will you say more? How were the groups placed by the choreo judges?

I can see West pulling ahead of Central though too, I hear they are off to a great start.
It's easy predicting that when your source is an alumni (ME!). It's great to see people supporting West, they truly have a great group of kids, I'm not trying to downplay them because I love them to death and have helped them out quite a bit. But, no one really is hearing the buzz about Davenport Central (and maybe some other smaller groups), because I'm the only one who really hears it (the Central buzz, that is).
It's possible to make predictions based off of judges preference, directors style, normal show style, past records, and reputation... but it all still falls down to the 2006-2007 season, and none of us have seen most of these groups shows. Be wary of making predictions pseudo blindly. (This isn't addressed to you Adam, it's a general statement. )
