Oh man, did I come off like I was being defensive. I totally did not mean to demean anyone or anything, I am an alum as well, and even when we did well I would ask these questions to other Pizzazz members. It was just a discussion that I'd had with other Show Choir members in the past. Purely conversational. I'm sorry if it came off any other way.
The question was, essentially - Would someone really step up to defend a higher "authority" I guess, if there wasn't some kind of connection between them.
I said it because we all know the things that were pointed out, but we often choose to ignore it when we get a "Raw" end of a deal. Am I still being confusing? I might just suck at articulating this, heh.
everyone.. i would like to present Clair LeMaster. *the name above* aka the only other Rock Bridge show choirite on this site! *applause*... she's a pretty cool cat... SO BE NICE!
Shoutout to all you River City Revue people! Let me just say that I thought Pleasant Hill was awesome. I didn't really know about this until last weekend, but I thought I would give it a try. I had so much fun sitting down in the auditorium surrounded by people from other schools than my own! Shout out to Parkway Central Pizzazz there! Your show is awesome and I personally don't think that you should change your style. I think it's awesome. Nevada- I didn't get a chance to see your show in the first of the competition because you went right after we did, and I didn't get a chance to see it in finals because that auditorium was so PACKED!!!! I got to listen to it though, and it sounded awesome!!! Congrats to Oak Park, the grand champions. Satin and Lace Girls, I love all of you, you were awesome. Smith Cotton, I love your whole show, you all can dance man! I didn't care what we got last Saturday as long as we made finals and made up some mistakes from Rockbridge.
Sean Myers, Hannibal "River City Revue"
Haha Sean... Im glad you decided to get on here. I know that Lindsey is on here too but she doesnt ever post. Well we have 3 peeps on here now.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your attitude! It's a change in this forum.....by the way-the best female performer from Rockbridge was Glory Liu (last name spelling?)
And PsychoDonkey-I personally think Parkway's style is totally awesome. It's pretty cool to see a choir w/out the risers just for a change. But if anybody else tried to pull it off, it would fail. So props for old traditions, cause you guys do an amazing job!
Hola! Thanks for the compliment! I try to have a positive outlook on it, because hurting someone's feelings is not my intent and not what I want to do. And remember: we are all doing show choir for a reason, BECAUSE WE LOVE IT!
And I couldn't remember Glory's name. My mom didn't write her name down on the paper because she couldn't hear her name being called. So, that's the reason why I didn't know her name. I've seen her several times, just never knew her name. But, now I know! Well, latta!~Ash
I really do not understand your questions Psychodonkey. Could you please clarify? To begin with, only 2 of the judges (who were ACTUALLY clinicians are from Pleasant Hill. If you read correctly, the other has done some choreography for us, and if you want me to go even further, Sandy Cordes has critiqued us before competitions, and we hosted Keith Currington's old choir...so...Oh gosh...they all have some connection to Pleasant Hill!) I can't really understand why you think I would be defending them, though, just because they are connected to here. If you've read any of my previous posts you might have noticed that I'm a peace keeper. I don't condemn any judges, choreographers, groups, etc. I give constructive criticism, but there is no way I would put them down for what they do.
I guess that's the closest answer I can give you. I just do not understand your question at all. I'm an alumni of Hillside, therefore I didn't even perform at this competition. I did, however watch all of the groups. That is why I have an opinion on the matter.
I keep reading your post and the closest I can come up with is that you think I am defending the judges because it was judging done at my HOME competition. Yes, it would seem to pose a bias, I suppose, but I'm not in the slightest. Do you not agree with the judging? Or are you just pointing something out to cause drama? I personally would uphold my opinion no matter what competition it were, or what judges.
Hopefully that answers your question, but I haven't the slightest idea if it will. Please let me know.
And I'm a fan of Pizzazz, so I hope you aren't making comments to offend me because you think I don't like you all.
Sorry to everyone if this message skips around a lot. I was so confused!!!!

Hola! I'm from Soundsational Singers, and thank you for the comments on our show. But everyone did really well at the competition. I knew as soon as they announced the finalists, it was gonna be close. We didn't do as well as we would have liked, but we weren't terrible. Our vocals weren't as good as Oak Park, Rock Bridge, and Pizzazz...but the vocals certainly weren't bad. We worked really hard on diction, etc. during the break that we had before finals. So, we improved a lot, and it was the best performance that we've done so far. I'm not upset with the way things went, Pizzazz, Satin 'N Lace, and Oak Park all deserved the places they got. Actually, I think everyone got the places they deserved. It was done for a reason. But to tell ya the truth, everyone did an awesome job..and it was a tough call on the judges part.

I guess my question to the Hillside folks. If 3 of the clinicians had not been alumnists of your school, would you be so ready and willing to step up and present the obvious? While you are correct, is the only reason you're pointing it out the fact that 50% of the officials there happen to be of your same breed? I'm not putting you down, or questioning your ethics... but it does pose that interesting question.
I know I would step up to bat for a competition's officials if they were being shown in a bad light and they were from my school. While you are in the clever guise as members of a low placed show choir, we have to ask what motivations are driving you to just now start defending the love/hate relationship of the judges?

Sparky, that is pretty offensive--even with all the smily faces. I know you probably mean no harm, but the judges were all quite qualified, and the groups got the placings they deserved.
Just to clarify, the judges were--
Sandy Cordes: Past MOCDA President, Retired choral director of none other than Smith Cotton Newscore, and current adjudicator and clinician..to name a few.
Keith Currington: former director of the "Big Red Singers" of the University of Nebraska, currently director of vocal music at Park Hill High School
Roger Kelley: Fine Arts Administrator at Liberty Public High Schools, choreographer, and director (used to choreograph Hillside)
Rita North (clinician): Founding director of Hillside Singers, currently music director at Pleasant Hill Middle School
Christi Reeder (clinician): dancer, choreographer, owner of Music 'n' Motion dance studio, also a former member of the Hillside Singers, (used to choreograph Hillside)
In my opinion, these judges know what they are talking about. All of them have been doing show choir wayyyy longer than any of us. They've all got their degree in music, and I'm guessing the majority of us do not. I'd say they are well qualified for the job, and just because they didn't go ahead and follow everyone elses standards doesn't mean they aren't correct in their judgements.

I wish my old show choir director at Central would realize times are changing and get on with implementing risers and costume changes in our set. He loves the traditional show choir standard or minimal set, minimal costumes and focuses on our vocals and choreography. I often wonder how we even rank in these competitions. Sure we can sing and dance ourselves to death and still be smiling as we collapse but, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to build the sets and change costumes so quickly. Kudos to all you choirs who do that so well and seamlessly.
Other than the Rockbridge girls friggin blowing people away - (which I had heard they would) it seems like this one was all over the map. Who the heck is Oak park anyway? and how did Nevada not get #1 or #2 --- were these judges on crack? LOL Who were the judges anyway? I mean I know SMith-Cotton cant sing very well, but c'mon....at a competitionn of this calibur I certainly would have thought they would do better than 5th. Yikes!
