Olentangy "Keynotes" Jackson Academy "Encore" Jackson Prep "Reveillon" Mt. Zion "Swingsations" Homewood "The Network" Cedar Rapids Washington "Momentum" Cedar Rapids Kennedy "Happiness, Inc." Decatur "Elite Energy"
Findlay and North Central might could be found on some YouTube live streams. Los Al and Manchester don't have any videos available that I know of.
Predictions
GC: Los Alamitos
1RU: Mt.Zion (BC)
2RU: Decatur (BV)
3RU: Findlay (BB)
4RU: Homewood
5RU: North Central
Now I know this looks a little crazy, but hear me out. Watching the stream of Los Alamitos’ show last night, it’s clear that they’re definitely well rounded and it’s going to be extremely difficult to take a caption from them. However, with the track records that both Mt.Zion and Decatur have this year, I think that it’s completely possible that these two groups could be the ones to take these captions. Findlay has been very consistent this year and i’m confident that they’ll place well here. Now in my eyes, it’s a toss up between Homewood, North Central, and Manchester for those 5th/6th spots. Homewood had a bit of a rocky start but they seem to be picking up steam very quickly. Same goes for North Central. Manchester coming right out the gate and beating Hurricane was definitely unexpected, so I think they’ll be a force to be reckoned with. Overall, this lineup is very strong and I wouldn’t be surprised if some results came out that turned the show choir world on its head
Updated Predictions
GC: Los Alamitos “Sound FX” (BV)
1RU: Mt Zion “Swingsation” (BC)
2RU: Manchester “Capital Swing”
3RU: Findlay “First Edition”
4RU: Decatur “Elite Energy”
5RU: Homewood “The Network”
I feel like Manchester "Capital Swing" is going to be the sleeper at this competition. Mostly after beating Hurricane High School "Ret Hot" this past weekend.
I mean, for all the hype that they get, I can understand that opinion. In all honesty, I haven't liked their shows as much after the 2016 Carnival show, but everything about a Clinton show is executed perfectly and performed convincingly. That's why Clinton cannot be beaten.
Clinton isn't all that great (to you) is cool because you're entitled to your opinion. I'm just curious as to what more they would have to do to be considered great in your eyes. As if their current winning streak of 18 consecutive Grand Championships (with zero loss of captions) wasn't enough lol.
They rarely go against great groups also theire vocals recently are not very good. I agree they used to be really great but it’s just not that good anymore and if you don’t agree with me cool
Go look at some of the competitions Clinton has attended in recent years: Glenwood 2019, Los Alamitos 2018, 2016, and 2014, FAME Orlando 2015, etc. You don't consider any of those competing groups great? Because to me it looks like some of the best groups in the nation, and Clinton beat all of them. Not trying to argue, but you can't say Clinton rarely goes against great groups when they compete against (and sweep) several of the best groups in the nation every year.
Petal, John Burrough's, Ankeny Centennial, Westside High School, Marysville High School, Wheaton Warrenville South, Center Grove, MT. Zion, Carmel, Twinsburg, Shepard Hill. These are some amazing groups they've bested in the past 4 years. They "rarely" go against great groups? I'm just not seeing the logic in that statement. To each their own I suppose... <3
If memory serves me well, the scores weren’t close in any of their victories in the last four years as well with the exception of Auburn 2019 at Jasper (9 points), and Homewood 2017 at Petal (10 points). To Max’s point, they almost never face competition in the South outside of the occasional encounter with a strong Homewood, Petal, or Auburn, but there’s always a national competition on their schedule, and they usually sweep that too. Competition strength is relative, though. Think about it, what groups are realistically on Clinton’s level? Los Alamitos, John Burroughs, and Burbank.
Wow, this year's obligatory "Is Clinton Really All That Good" conversation happened early in the season!!
Few, if any, groups have been as consistently excellent as Clinton, and I love them. I do wish they would compete with Los Al. And, I wish they'd go up against Burbank and Burroughs--- in a place that is NOT Los Al's competition. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
Returning to this competition: if anyone can take Los Al, it would be North Central. No matter how it shakes out, you're looking at a full lineup of well-executed and very entertaining shows.
Yall I think we can agree we CANT use winning streaks to say if Clinton is the best. While yes, they do have the longest streak, they aren't facing consistently top tiered chords every week (for obvious reasons). For instance, Los Al, Burroughs, and Burbank compete almost every weekend with each other, with minuscule differences in points each comp. It is almost impossible to maintain a winning streak. Otherwise I think these three would have much higher winning streaks. While yes Clinton has beaten these choirs (minus Los Al) and more, there's no way to tell unless each top tiered choir faced off with their strongest show ever. Besides that, its all subjective. I mean I'm from Ohio. At this point we can't even decide who's the "best." Everything has changed every single year.
whether they are the best is up for debate, but the discussion was on rather if they were “great” which by their record I would argue a strong and definite yes.
Oh most definitely. It shows their prowess, especially since they usually only compete out of state once a year. It shows that they are a force to be reckoned with. Honestly though, we need to see a Los Al vs Clinton showdown at a minimum cause that would be chaotic.
I think we need to take into consideration that the reason Los Al, Burroughs, and Burbank compete against one another every week is because they live in the same state and travel is less expensive when you’ve got great competitions in your own back yard. Contrary to popular belief Clinton isn’t made of money and can’t afford to travel out to California every week or the Midwest, so like every choir from every region majority of your comps will be in your state or states adjacent to you with one or two being farther out of town. In the south we maybe have 4 groups that can compete on a national level and Clinton has beat them year after year. We don’t need to debate what has been proven time and time again, Clinton Attache is great and will be great as long as one Mr. David Fehr is over their direction. I’m not debating the worth of any other choir on this list but let’s be real if Clinton was to compete with those California groups we’d just have another Los Al Xtravaganza 2016.
I will disagree completely with that notion. While Clinton travels, beating a group one year is NOT an indicator that they're better. Again take Ohio, like my lord every week its a new winner against the same groups competing.. Pit Clinton against Burroughs and Burbank for one year at one comp and not seeing either groups for 3-4 more years til the next show down is not an indicator that they're better in the slightest. That's too subjective. I mean pit em against Burroughs in 2017 or 2019, and Burbank 2017 or 2019 shows and I guarantee you'd be seeing some different results from each of the judges in all choirs favors... It's why its too subjective to even think they'd win again. You dont know unless it happens.
Clinton 5-2 against Burroughs and 3-0 against Burbank. So history shows that Clinton has been consistently better than these groups. And the 18 consecutive GC streak with 80 grand champions under their belt 7 2nd places 1 3rd and 1 4th place is only adding to the notion that Clinton is one of the best. It shouldn’t matter how often a group competes against other groups because years of winning all across the country show how great they are. And yes of course show choir in and of itself is a subjective sport based on judges opinions but any good adjudicator knows how to judge a group based on their performance and I’m sorry, Clinton performs to near perfection. It’s proven time and time again. They wouldn’t be scoring as well as they do and as far ahead of other groups if they were “alright.” It’s almost foolish to call them anything less than amazing for all they’ve done in their history. Same to Burroughs, Burbank and Los Al. They are amazing. Are they as technically sound as Clinton? In my opinion no. Until Burbank and Burroughs over take Clinton in records I will have to stand by my opinion that Clinton will best them any time they see one another.
I don’t believe it is possible to determine who is the “Best” program in the country, considering how many different presentations/executions of show choir there are. I think is much easier to define though who is the most successful show choir based on the program establishment to competitive placement ratio. So to just state it again determining who is the best show choir of all time is, in my opinion, is impossible.
Another thought I have (and this goes for any of the few groups that have been able to take down a California group this past decade) is that these competitions always happen in March.
That's still kind of early for the California season- but it is when the Southern and Midwest groups are at their peak. Somebody better wait until John Burroughs' competition. Compete with the best, when they're at their best!
I also believe that Homewood “The Network” has a good chance in placing. They are a very good group and get better every performance! Looking forward to seeing the results of this competiton!
Is Clinton competing at Burroughs or hart this year ???? imagine hart Los al Burbank Burroughs Clinton I’ve never seen Clinton and Los al go head to head
That ain't it, Itskevon! Los Alamitos almost a sure bet to win, North Central struggling somewhat this year, Findlay unpredictable, Homewood not as good as most people would like to think they are. Mt. Zion and Decatur are both having very good years and you can never count the Iowa schools out.
First of all we are not struggling, we loss one competition and got second at our first competition it’s not the end of the world. We have four weeks till nationals you never know what could happen. Second it’s a prediction, I made this prediction Dec 5, 2019 it was just for fun. Finally show choir is fun and it’s great competing against other amazing show choirs so don’t think I’m trying to be little other choirs because I’m not I’m just stating that I feel like my schools top show choir has a very good chance of winning that’s all. ????
I would like to second that North Central is not struggling this year. They’re a solid group facing stiff competition in the early stages of their season. People said that last time they came, and they swept the competition unanimously. Also, Homewood is every bit as good as they should have been expected to be, if not better - this group would surely beat the highly touted 2012 edition with a clean sweep. I suppose when you base everything off arbitrary placements rather than the merits of each group’s performance, you become blind to how strong they actually are.
Sorry about having apparently offended so many people with my post, although I guess I more or less expected this reaction as soon as I posted it. In my defense, North Central has suffered defeats that shouldn't have happened to a group that intends to be a National Champion, considering the over-all strength of the opposition they will be facing. Homewood IS every bit as good as they should have been and I have expected them to be, but I know, just from their general history, that they have rarely been able to compete with the super-power groups. In general, I am only speaking the truth about all of these groups, based on what I have seen up to this point, and where their progression will take them. As many people already know, I CAN BE highly opinionated. Not trying to discredit anyone.
I would like to 3rd against the notion that NC is struggling, and Homewood's show is quite phenomenal. I had the privilege of witnessing it in person. Also I wouldn't count on how a group places throughout the season as a sole indicator of how they will do nationally. For example, at this very same competition last year, Auburn had one of their strongest shows and best seasons and came short of placing for finals. I appreciate and respect your opinion and I'm not sure you're offending anyone we just disagree on some key phraseology.<3
I don't believe that is exactly how my statement read when I made my prognosis leading into SCN. Obviously, as the past has often shown us, anything can happen at this show, and that is how I am looking at it now and why I haven't, as of yet, made a prediction.
