There's 2 within driving distance of Viterbo, if you can get a parent or something to drive you over there during lunch hour or something. Plus, if you take the way I'd take to Viterbo from the Days Inn, you'll pass two; maybe you can get the bus driver to stop.

Viterbo competition provides early test for show choirs
By TERRY RINDFLEISCH | La Crosse Tribune
Viterbo University has one of the earliest high school show choir competitions of the season in the Midwest.
The Viterbo 101 competition, to be held Saturday in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre, has grown in its second year to 15 show choirs from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
Having Viterbo’s competition early in the season is exactly what Nancy Allen wanted.
Allen, director of Viterbo’s Platinum Edition Show Choir, said the Viterbo competition emphasizes preparing shows for the rest of the season. After a performance, show choirs will have a working clinic in the La Croix Black Box Theatre, where a judge can provide a critique.
“This competition is really rooted in education,†Allen said. “Show choirs can find out how their show is working and they can tweak their show early. They can do it in a warm atmosphere where everyone is supportive of each other.â€
Allen, who judges show choirs competitions throughout the Midwest, said choreographer Andrew Cao will give a videotape critique, and Greg Balfany, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s director of jazz bands, will critique and judge the show bands.
More than 700 singers, dancers and band members are expected to perform at the Viterbo show.
Riverside Company of Hastings, Minn., is returning as Viterbo 101’s defending grand champion. Some of the other show choirs are: Linn-Mar 10th Street Edition of Marion, Iowa; Midwest Express and Midwest Magic, Holmen, Wis.; Silver Connection of Monona Grove, Wis.; Choralation, Milton, Wis.; Parkview Pizazz, Orfordville, Wis.; Cardinal Singers, Mayville, Wis; and Old Abe Show Choir, Eau Claire, Wis.
This year, Platinum Edition and Tonal Impact, a Viterbo all-male vocal quintet, will perform at the show as well.
Last year, members of Platinum Edition and Viterbo’s music education club decided to sponsor Viterbo’s first show choir competition.
“I wanted my students going into music education to organize a competition or music festival because it’s something they might have to do when they become music teachers,†Allen said.
Allen said the show choir contest also is a good way to bring more high school students on campus.
“The Fine Arts Center is a beautiful facility, and it’s unusual to get a chance to sing and dance as show choir members in a theater setting like this,†Allen said.
I believe that all the judges score everything except band. I think Dr. Balfany will be the only one scoring the bands- not entirely sure though. I can check on that.
That helps a little bit - also - like, the 10 point things that vocals are broken down to, and choreo, etc etc. - it's sorta a thing we do just to go over it - gives the younger more than enough to think about for a while

Quick question - Juliofrommississippi posted that it was broken down Vocals - 100, Choreography - 60, Other Factors - 50, and Band - 50 ~
I was wondering, could anyone tell me the like, the... subdivisions of each section? or, how each of those are broken down. Also, is the band only 50 points on the grading sheet or are they 10 points on the judges sheet and 50 points on the band judge's sheet?
Oh, I'm very excited. DIvaz is performing at 9:30 if everyone is on schedule. We have an awesome set this year, a big improvement from last year! I can't wait for our first comp!!
