PRELIMINARY AWARDS / DINNER BREAK 05:30p-7:15p
There are two venues at Fairfield; The Arena - a large gymnasium with one back section of seating blocked off and a raised stage facing toward the other three sides of the audience. There is also regular chairs on the actual court in front of the stage as well - and the Performing Arts Center (PAC), which is an auditorium on the other side of the school.
The Crystal Classic is one large event, but there are basically two competitions going on at the same time (as well as a solo competition.) In the PAC, Middle School and Small Mixed divisions compete from 10:00am until about 4:30pm. In the Arena, Single-Gender and Large Mixed choirs compete from 8:00am until about 4:30pm. Then, preliminary awards are held, Two finalists from the Middle School division are announced as well as the Single-Gender division, and they will each perform first in finals in their same respective performance venues. 5 finalists in each the Small and Large Mixed divisions will then perform in those same venues. (Arena - Single-Gender, Large Mixed. PAC - Middle School, Small Mixed.) Each performance venue has their own panel of judges (which you can see listed above.) In years past the female and Male solo comp winners have performed before finals in the Arena, but I'm not sure if that will change this year.
Might I also add that the Crystal Classic continuously brings in outside vendors for food options for lunch and dinner (and they're delicious), so say goodbye to "dancing tacos" in a fritos bag and cold lunch meat!
I can't speak on behalf of Fairfield, but I can speak on behalf of Ohio when saying we're very excited to have you East-Coasters here in Ohio in March! Can't wait!
Well, Fairfield can also say we are happy - especially because their director worked up there for eight years and is good friends with all of those groups!
The solo comp winners will be in the Arena still at the top of finals.
In addition to our reputation for good food, we are adding food trucks to our menu that will be right outside of the cafeteria! There will be something for everyone!
Shepherd Hill kids will know the new change I am adding to Crystal Classic because of how I introduced groups at the New England Show Choir Showdown that I started up in Andover. They will be only ones coming to CC that will be use to it! :D
There is a lot more that we are adding to this awesome event - so get ready. :D
Can't wait to see how everyone reacts to the intros! I always thought Andover had the most epic way to start off performances at their comp and I'm psyched that you're continuing it at CC, Mr. Mercer!
I think you might be overthinking Naperville North a little. The last time they competed here they beat Loveland and took Best Vocals and Best Band. And back then, in 2015, it was only their third year in existence! Having been lucky enough to see them the past two years as well, I wouldn't count them out for a second!
Can our website link on this page get changes to http://www.fairfieldcrystalclassic.com/ ? Also, we are planning on releasing the schedule tomorrow along with a possible addition. ;)
GC: FC “Singers” (BV) (BC)
1RU: Naperville North “Entourage”
2RU: Loveland “By Request” (BB)
3RU: Shephard Hill “Fantasy”
4RU: Medina “Encore Entertainment Company”
This one’s going to be absolutely insane. For the first time, like, ever, I’m particularly interested in the matchup of the BANDS at the large mixed level! Hot Brockets of Naperville North and Loveland’s huuuuuge band... should be a battle for the ages
These are some solid predictions; I am excited to see how each group does in the weeks leading up. I think it's very likely that these groups could move places. Also yes, those two bands are two of the best in the country.
