Well now a fire alarm was not one of the "potential problems" I had considered last night as the finals were starting! Thanks to everyone for having a great sense of humor about the situation and for moving so calmly. A special thanks to Mr. Woodin, Mr. Temple, and Studio 2006 for understanding and being so organized at getting restarted. I loved the "were on fire" chant from the Urbandale crowd as we were preparing to begin again! And only Mr. Ziegler would think to put the "Linn-Mar alarm" joke into Spamalot. Way to go Storm!

There were so many outstanding performances by the 21 groups that appeared at Supernova between Friday night and Saturday night. Thanks to you all for being so well prepared and giving your very best. I was amazed at how far along so many groups are for this point in the season! This was definitely the strongest set of shows in a Supernova finals yet! Outstanding Headliners, Vocalmotive, Ambassadors, Happiness, Visual Adrenaline, and Studio 2006! A special thanks to Bemidji for making the trip down and being such a wonderful addition to the Supernova list. You people are the greatest! Please come back again.

It was very special to have all of our CR Metro neighbors involved this year. Thanks to Jefferson, Kennedy, Prairie, Washington, and Xavier for joining us. The Cedar Rapids Metro is so lucky to have such outstanding choral music programs.

Lastly to the Supernova parents. The success of Supernova is a total tribute to your amazing contributions to what we do. This competition has become so excellent because of you! Thanks to Mark Baumann and Tracy Volner our co-chairs, the entire Supernova Central Committee and all the Supernova parent volunteers. You are the best!

So to all, the Linn-Mar Choral Department wishes you a great year and please come back and join us next year!

Bob Anderson

I thought that Linn-mar was AMAZING!!!! The fire alram was actaully, funny. Maybe, I'll put some pics up when I can find my link. I REALLY like Souix City's (the one that made into finals) their novelty with the guys!!! HILARIOUS!!! Great job to studio for the way they handeled the fire alram. Good luck to all!

Once again Linn-Mar put on an outstanding invitational. Their parents and hosts are always so accomodating. Our hosts were very friendly and took great care of us. I know our kids especially appreciated the cooler of ice cold bottled water you had waiting for them as they went into the critique during the prelims.

I didn't get to see any of the other groups live because I just didn't want to jam myself into that crowded auditorium, but I did get to see at least a portion of all of the finalists shows on the closed circuit feed.

I think this was the most prepared I've seen all of the groups that were in finals this early in the season. I also think this may have been one of the toughest Supernova finals. Kennedy...I loved Spamalot. I was cracking up because I love, love, love Monty Python's Holy Grail. One of our guys got some souvenir Spam® and was ecstatic. (I also enjoyed the "shake your booty" chant at the awards ceremonies.)

The fire alarm was very interesting. Since our girls have to change backstage the backstage crew completely cleared the wings during our performance. When the alarm started I thought it was the microphone feeding back, but it was weird that it kept happening in evenly spaced intervals. Then the backstage door opened and one of our hosts was standing there signalling to me that we needed to stop. That's when I noticed the strobe lights on the alarms flashing. That's definitely the very first time in almost 25 years of participating in show choir that I've ever had somebody stop our show and tell us to "Get off the stage!"

Mr. Anderson came and found us outside and was so apologetic and told us that we would have the opportunity to go back into the warmup area for as long as we needed to prepare to start our show again. The singer/dancers were pretty much ready to go as soon as we got back inside, but our band's horns needed a few minutes to get back to room temperature so we could tune them properly. We only took about 5-10 minutes once the alarm was cleared up before going back to the stage. All in all I think the fire alarm only put the finals about 30 minutes behind schedule.

Once again...great job to all who participated this weekend.

Great job!

Could you imagina the fire marshall/Linn-Mar parent's thought's when it went off. "OMG we have 500 people in an aud with 2 exits" That's what scares me the most, there's only 2 ways for people in the audience to get outta that aud. It's a sweet aud, (ankeny needs one just like it) but that's what I first thought of when my dad called and said there's a fire alarm going off. just say an extra prayer of thanks that it wasen't a real fire. Thinks about other places that make the fire marshall's cringe when they hold sc comps in them.

The fire alarm went off?!?

That must go down in the annuls of show choir history as one of the most bizarre moments ever (and now that it's past - can we laugh at it too?). It speaks volumes about how composed and prepared Urbandale must have been. Something like that could have easily derailed their focus and concentration. Even with a chance to start over - it's only human to think 'we were off to a better start before' and stuff like that - but they must have avoided that pit fall and ended up with a great result instead.

So next week for Johnston's "Showzam" - 1) nothing too cold as in snow... 2) nothing too 'hot' to set off the fire alarms! Let's keep it tepid kids!

Urbandale, YEA!!!!!! I guess your win was more "alarming" than you might've hoped, but whether the building was on fire or not, fantastic work. You continue to inspire me with your work ethic, your approach to what you do, and your wonderful talent. I'm so proud of you and my most heartfelt congrats!

Kennedy, I TOLD you Spamalot would be a hit!!! You've come so very far and you have a genuinely awesome show this year. With 34 new members and only 10 veterans, it's amazing the work you've done to come to this point. You've made a statement that all the rookies are gonna stand tall and be great this year!! If I could kiss you and Urbandale through the computer I would,.......but then there'd be jail, a court battle, your dads would beat me up,....so it's not worth it! Honestly, great job for both of you! God Bless, Damon

Today was a GREAT competition!

Ankeny's show just plain rocks.... I could watch it a million times, their ballad and closer are phenomenal. The girls dresses are my favorite costume piece... ever

Urbandale has a REALLY cool male soloist, it's the most unique solo I've ever heard.... CONGRATS ON GC!! Fantastic show! The night round was superb.

HAPPINESS!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! I pretty much will have to find a way to see your show again, it's amazing.... Adam Fieldson rocks! (ballad).... and I could listen to Adam Hairston say that line a million times! Hysterical closer.

CR Prarie had some REALLY cool choreography.... their show is fun... I love the 70's, and the costumes are fun

Bemiji I had never heard of you guys until this comp, but your show is fun! Inventive! Acapella ballads are amazing!

Headliners! Nice Choreo!!! Very funny Guys #!!!!!

I had the priviledge of sitting up with the judges for the finals performances. They were some of the neatest people. Pete Eklund is cool! Happiness-the judges were hysterically laughing at your closer, they talked about it for like 5 min after you guys left the stage

Linn Mar was amazing!!!!

Cool cool, congrats to urby. 6-straight. Yes there was a fire alarm during urby's opening set, and they got to reset and do it all over, which is cool. Good luck to everyone the rest of the year.

YOU CHEATER! I gave those to you by phone! pssshhh

Yes, the fire alarm went off during Urbandale's performance. Everyone waited outside until the fire truck came; it was freezing! Apparently an alarm had detected something, I don't know. Needless to say, it was a false alarm and Urbandale restarted their show.

Good luck to ALL the groups there, make it very hard for the judges to decide. Make them have to order new trophies, b/c the judges couldn't pick who should be in finals " border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> " border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> and escpecially good luck to the CIML central conference groups that are there (Ankeny and Urbandale) Represent the CIML and Central Iowa. We're the only athletic conference in iowa where each school in the conference has a show choir. I like to brag about it a tad.
