Well, I will be happy to inform people who are keeping tabs on the Prep Division... Cedar Rapids "Celebration" is planning on comming. I have pestered my director enough about it, and he finally gave in and is allowing us go and compete. I am more than excited.

We have alot of work ahead of us, hopefuly it will pay off.

does anyone know who will be judging this year? i got to meet jason krigas last year and he was very cool. i didn't know if he would be back with all that is going on.

also, for the record, i thought ankeny was incredible last year and was possibly even better than urbandale (not meant to be a knock on urb. - just letting you know that i think other groups are hot on their heels).

thanks

I plan on getting there in the morning and staying all day/night... so i am hoping to get a good seat like i did last year, i even met kids from other schools and then would go in the "student" section to cheer for their school

I can't wait to see everyone there.

I think holding Supernova in the Linn-Mar gym would be a logistical nightmare as well. The gymnasium is pretty far from all the homerooms and is down a level from most if not all of them. I only know of the two entrance/exits from the gym and they are both right off the cafeteria. How would the traffic flow of participants and audience work through the congested cafeteria? Where would the warmup area be?

It's a tough one. I personally wish there was room for everyone that wants to watch to get a seat in the performance venue, but I think the current setup still makes the most sense. Maybe someday they'll build a 2500 seat auditorium and that would solve all of the problems!

Well, they only have 3 1/2 months to do it, so get to demolishing!

I guess another factor is if there will be just as many groups attending this year, there were LOTS last year, but most of Supernova's groups seem to stay pretty true to going to that competition. Just having less groups there will lessen the load on the auditorium.

Any news on any judges yet?

While I agree that the sound and lights are expensive, I know that at my alma mater, they had the chairs, and I am sure that Linn-Mar would, at least for the first few years be able to borrow (or rent) a stage from either Jefferson or Washington. We also had techies and volunteers do a lot of the set-up and teardown.

From the standpoint of someone who helps run our own invitational I can tell you one GIANT reason why they wouldn't move the competition to the gym as long as it's well attended in the auditorium......money!

To stage a competition in the gym is very costly. You can count on a couple thousand dollars to rent lights and a good sound system, another three to four thousand to rent a stage and have it setup and torn down, at least a few hundred more to rent chairs for the floor, and the list goes on and on.

Also, the teardown and cleanup for a competition in the gym is much more labor intensive than one held in an auditorium.

Cedricpatrick, in another thread you asked any Linn-Mar students to post here whether Supernova will be moved to the gym. Well, it won't lol. It will continue to be held in the auditorium.

Hey...we don't take offense to a comment like that.  We get it...we've got a big bullseye on our back especially at a competition like Linn-Mar.  Everybody wants to win at every competition they attend.  If S.C. East had won the competition the last five years in a row I'd probably be thinking (but probably not posting) the same exact thing.

i havent had internet for like 2 weeks...the horror...i know....so I havent had a chance to respond to this...but, the original post I made on the subject was not intended to be a knock against urbandale. Im not sure what my intentions were...i was kinda rambling on....but, just as a disclaimer...i love urbandale..........u guys rock..........u've deserved every win u've gotten at linn mar...sorry if my last post was a little misleading

hope that clears things up

CR Washington Momentum and Vivace will not be going to Linn-Mar's competition. It was on our possible list so thats how Chelsea had heard that but we decided to go back to Monona Grove instead for the overnighter and the solo competition! and also to see more Wisconsin choirs.

Lets not get crazy now Ryan Johnstone... maybe Urbandale will lose their winning streak at Linn Mar, too early to say anything, but based off of logical thinking.... its going to be Urbandale and Ankeny going at it for the GC. Ill save our GC against Urbandale for Totino Grace ( blushing.gif ) Back to rational thinking... Id just like to stick with our streak (save last year) of making finals at Linn Mar. (Can anyone let me know what they thought of our show this past year? Exclude the horrible pants at Linn Mar please...) The top two finalists should be pretty close this year...

And speaking of watching show choir... why did I not get to watch any last year at Linn Mar? Please tell me that the competition will be taking place in the gym... I really like watching and performing on a stage... but the auditorium just isnt big enough anymore, which is why I would like to petition for moving the competition (At least Saturday, it seemed fine Friday night) into the wonderful gym that Linn Mar has. This is all assuming that the same or more number of choirs are returning this year.

*Salutes Bob Anderson*

I know what you mean. Headliners have never placed worse than 3rd runner up at Linn Mar until last year...so i know we're definitely set on making finals and getting our reputation as one of Iowa' top groups back. No matter what show choirs end up coming it is still gonna be one heated competition. Hopefully someone can dethrone Urbandale this year too ( like the Headliners!)...it'd be nice to see some1 else win grandchampion for once.
