Yay!! So proud of Totino-Grace CoS! I had the honor and privilege of hosting them on their way down to Nashville, and I LOVED their show. I'm so happy for them.
Interesting that two groups that did not make finals at Davenport Great River were able to place 2nd and 6th at a Nationals competition. Shows how far those shows have come and how strong Iowa competitions can be. Congrats to all who competed!
So if converted to rankings, prelim placements would be:
Los Al
Omaha Westside
Totino Grace
Washington
Kennedy
Auburn
Jackson Prep
Brandon
Broken Arrow
Uniondale
Enterprise
Sauk Prairie
Crete Monee
Grafton
You can see that finals would have remained the same, only with Kennedy and Auburn switching time slots. Also, I want to clarify that Crete did NOT have a higher visual score than Uniondale... Uniondale had an 18 point advantage.
To clarify what's happening here, several choirs had miscalculated point totals while looking at the sheet, so you can see what their actual score was, while the number in parentheses demonstrates how far away the score on the sheet was. Band scores didn't factor into prelims scores; they were categorized as their own competition.
I have the judge's breakdown, but those scores were pretty consistent from judge to judge.
Another interesting little observation is how much the vocal scores affected whether or not a school made finals or not. For instance, Kennedy was 4th in vocals but failed to be in the top 6 in every other category and still made finals, while Jackson Prep was 8th vocally yet was in the top 6 in every other category but didn't make finals.
Yet another interesting tidbit is that Crete beat Uniondale in both vocals and choreography (even band too) yet Uniondale's show scores were so high that they beat Crete.
