For that matter, why was a school with more than 40 performers allowed to compete in the AA division? The rules are clear that the only difference between AA and AAA are AA=40 or fewer singers, AAA=40 or more.
Yeah, my friend noticed that.

I am a strong proponent of using rankings for placements, and believe the correct groups took home the first place trophies. It should be used uniformly across the board, however, for all places, as well as the showmanship and musicianship awards. I don't know why it was not.

Hart scored 787, NOT 757! Sorry

So... If we followed through that system, Bonita vista got 4,3,& 4 resulting... 11 rank points..
While Mt. Eden: 2, 3, and 4 which leads to 9 rank points.

If this system was followed throughout all choirs, the results shouldve been..
Hart, Carlsbad, Mt. Eden, Bonita, Diamond Bar.

But if we followed through with the scores... It would have been
Carlsbad, Hart, Bonita, Mt. Eden, Diamond Bar which also did not happen.

But the overall placement was..
Hart, Carlsbad, Bonita, Mt. Eden, Diamond.

I am one confused show choir geek.

Yes, I do believe they did tie for showmanship.

So I just wanted to say congrats to all the choirs that competed at SoCal this weekend. Regardless of the placings, it's incredible to see how every choir and performer has grown this season and it is such a blessing to be able to witness it. There we so many sets that blew me away. And a special thanks to Chula for hosting the competition. It was so much fun and it makes me so happy to see Main Attraction performing as a group again. I can't wait for next year! :D

Didn't Burbank "Sound Dogs" and Mt. Eden "Who's Yo Daddy" tie for Showmanship?

Here's what happened for the AA Division:

Carlsbad (2nd Place) scored 802
Hart (1st Place) scored 757

CARLSBAD: For their rankings, one judge put CARLSBAD in first, one in second, and one in third making for SIX (6) RANK POINTS.

HART: For their rankings, one judge put them in third, and the other two judges scored them the highest in the AA Division making for FIVE (5) RANK POINTS.

Even though Carlsbad scored 15 points higher than Hart, Hart received one less rank point then Carlsbad winning the Advanced Mixed AA Division at SoCal 2012.

I hope this answers some of your questions!

Having 3 judges at a major competition like SoCal is not the best idea... when one judge has 33% control over the scores (or rankings), one judge can really change everything. When there are 4 or 5 judges with 20 or 25 percent control each, they really can't do that much to drastically change the scores.

Maybe having five judges instead of three would not result in decisions that are inconsistent with the judges scores.

Burbank and Carlsbad, congrats to you all and my sincere thanks for what you achieved over the past 2 days. I feel so blessed to be a part of both programs, and watching the shows come to life onstage is a gift that I never stop being grateful for. To the seniors from both schools, thank you for blessing my life with your talent, passion, and heart. God Bless each of you as you enter exciting and wonderful new stages of life, Damon

There has been a LOT of inconsistent judging this year

Yes the same thimg happened to Decibelles yesterday. We won on paper but not in trophy. Personally I think that that the system the used for judges should be used only to break a tie. Even though all the winning choirs put on an outstanding show. Congrats to all, already missing show choir now that the season over.

Carlsbad actually scored higher than Hart and John Burroughs scored higher than Burbank. SoCal went by ranking all the choirs and the choirs with the least rank total won each of the Divisions at SoCal 2012.

OUT OF A POSSIBLE 840 POINTS

Carlsbad (2nd Place - AA): 802
Hart (1st Place - AA): 787

John Burroughs (2nd Place - Tier I): 828
Burbank (1st Place - Tier I): 826

Congrats to In Sync for a crazy amazing show! Watching you guys made me miss show choir so much! I have to gush a little bit - can't hold it in, sorry! My brother is in In Sync, and he programmed Robert's light/heart. He worked so hard on it, and it worked beautifully with the set...I'm so proud!! 271 - REPRESENT!
