Eric Park teaches 7th and 8th grade band and jazz band at Chapel Hill 7th and 8th Grade Center. Eric has taught music in Wayne Township for over 10 years and his students have consistently earned superior ratings at ISSMA organizational and solo and ensemble contests. In the spring of 2016 he was awarded an Indiana University Armstrong Teacher Educator award. In January 2016, Eric was awarded a Teacher Creativity Fellowship Grant from the Lilly Endowment to study music in Germany and Switzerland. In 2015, he was awarded a MAC grant to purchase music-specific technology tools for the classroom.
He is the former director of the Ben Davis Show Band, winning two consecutive “Best Band” captions at ISSMA Show Choir State Finals in 2013 and 2014. Eric also worked on
staff with 2004 Bands of America Grand National Champions, the Lawrence Central High School. Prior to working in Indianapolis, Eric worked as a freelance musician and private lesson teacher in Atlanta for two years. His patrons included Homestarrunner.com, Pleaserock.com, and producers Don McCollister (Indigo Girls) and Ben Allen (Deer Hunter, Animal Collective).
Eric earned his Bachelor’s of Music Education degree in instrumental teaching and horn from the Indiana University School of Music. While studying horn with Richard Seraphinoff, Eric took advantage of the school’s renowned jazz faculty, taking courses in jazz history, pedagogy, and improvisation. He was also invited on several occasions to play horn in David Baker’s jazz ensemble. In addition to his teaching duties, Eric is currently working on a Master’s degree in Music Education at Butler University. He is frequently hired to arrange and perform. He is the staff arranger for the Pork and Beans Brass Band. He plays keyboards in the bands, Doug and Nightbabies. He resides in Indianapolis with his wife, Danica, and their two daughters, Penelope and Veronica.
