Also, I think this might be the only competition I have been to where they have only handed out captions during the day. I think Grove City might do it but I am not 100% sure

FAME Orlando did it 2 years ago when my school competed there(Omaha Westside ATSC). I kind of like the idea of it though. It makes the groups that would be "locks" for finals bring their a-game during prelims. From an audience standpoint I love it because if I only stay for prelims I could still get to view the each of the top groups best performances. Because if there is really only 3 groups competing for that GC but their are 6 finals spots those 3 groups wont just coast through into finals. Everyone knows that a Best Vocals, Choreo or Band caption looks really good next to a GC trophy.

No. The score sheet had 9+9+9=5. That's a 22 point error. When added back to Marysville's total, it put them in 2nd with Best Choreo.

Okay I see. Well thanks for clearing that up.

Medina does that as well and so does Cuyahoga Falls.

I think the error was made while figuring out who should receive the caption not on the overall score. But on another note. How weird was it that captions were handed out after the day performance? Does that happen a lot in other states or was that unique to this competition?

After the scoring change with the choreo mishap I don't believe you are correct but alas, as you said, it doesn't matter at this point.

This is incorrect! But either way Marysville still won so it doesn't really make a difference.

Nice to see that once again, the show choir that won best vocals did NOT take Grand Champ. Smh.
It can't be all based on vocal scores, or there would be no point to the choreography. This is show choir, and though I do think most people do prefer slightly higher weight placed on the vocal element of a show, the choreography can't be ignored. I think most of the competitions out west have a 60/40 ratio to the scoresheet and that seems to be a pretty good sweet spot.

Also keep in mind that scores at competitions can be extremely close, and winning choreo by two points but losing vocals by 1 can put you over the top - but just because you didn't take the vocal caption doesn't mean your vocals were "bad." I have no idea what the scores were at this particular event, I'm just saying captions don't always mean a blowout in a particular area.

Lastly, what Kyle said was also correct, and I don't really understand why some competitions don't award captions based on a finals performance. I don't want to get into the necessity of prelims for the millionth time, but certainly if captions were awarded at a separate time than overall placements it would be easy to see why there is some discrepancy there.

Maybe if they did captions in finals it would be different.

Apparently the scoring error for Marysville was that somehow the scores were added so 9 * 3 = 5.... Now I'm not a rocket scientist... but I think that's wrong

Congrats to everyone and I wish I could have been there

I suppose marysville's 9:30 performance did effect their score. What a leap in score!

After finals, Marysville was ahead of Zionsville by 30 I believe. They must have stepped it up!

To ensure accuracy of groups competing at Lebanon, Churubusco pulled out of this event to attend ISSMA Small Mixed State Finals - - which obviously took place the same day. FYI
