I can confirm, I was able to check the official scores and they read the results wrong (I don't know what the cause of the tabulation error was, but it sucks for all the groups there). The correct placements are listed above.
I thought about making a long post explaining what happened in a lot of detail, but decided against it. Most who will read this weren't at the competition and weren't affected by the mishap, so there's really no point in feeding the fire. If a representative at Chaparral wants to make a long post, be my guest.
All I'll say is that there was no "scoring error." Scoring was finalized early before judging had ended, and a winner was announced before all scores had even come in. Had all scores been tabulated and published at the correct time, Powerhouse would've won, but the power to declare a winner (if any) lies solely in the hands of the hosts at Chaparral.
Regardless of the outcome, I did hear the competition was wonderful and I hope students can look past results and just appreciate the wonderful feelings of performing on stage with all of their closest friends. Oh, what many alumni would give to have one more performance in the spotlight
It’s unfortunate what happened here. I firmly believe they should negate the scores considering there was an inconsistency with their scoring. While I respect this competition, I just wish they would remove placements entirely, as to not hurt any group and give everyone a fair solution to this mistake.
I remember powerhouse winning show and music at a competition and still not winning the grand championship . However, I don’t recall powerhouse ever winning a competition without taking at least a show or music award. What was the actual scoring?
