I think it's just sort of like a "oh hey, look that happened, wow that's kind of weird, interesting" sort of comment. And there isn't anything wrong with that.
Judging is and always will be "Kind of weird and interesting" to me. When a group can win best vocals and choreography over 2 top groups one week and then another, not even be ranked in top 6 in choreography after prelims is, well curious.

Didn't Waubonsie and F.C. just have a flip/flop as well? To sorta quote Forrest, Forrest Gump; "Judging is as Judging does. . ."

I certainly agree with what Dylan said. Especially the end about Indiana, seriously RT. I don't think anyone is whining, in fact these are discussion boards so it's nice to have some input once in a while. We shouldn't stray away from critical dialogue. It's a solid observation that Dylan made. Sure, this conversation has taken place a million times on SCC about how you can win GC with various caption combinations (or no captions at all). Depending how a score sheet is weighted, the scores of the actual choirs, etc. it's understandable a choir can win with BC while the BV group takes 1RU. This tends to elicit the "show CHOIR" narrative, which is a completely separate topic, but nonetheless we've discussed this various times on the SCC topics and will continue to discuss it as a new batch of students roll in every year!

The interesting thing that Dylan pointed out is that usually we don't see such drastic caption spreads or reversals from division-to-division. NC "Counterpoints" won with BV/BB while FF "Rhythm Express" took 1RU with BV/BB in their respective divisions. Certainly plausible, I don't think anyone is doubting the merit of this competition, I think it's just sort of like a "oh hey, look that happened, wow that's kind of weird, interesting" sort of comment. And there isn't anything wrong with that.

Winning best band and best vocals doesn't get you first. Hard work and good scores get you first.

Headlines don't sell papes. Newsies sell papes. It's a fine life carrying the banner.

So interesting to see Best Visuals go so far down, but I imagine that the scores were all really close.

The "Pendletones" from Pendleton Heights HS also participated in the "Small Mixed" division. I believe they were also competing at Center Grove the same day and were a late addition to the schedule at BD.

Dylan isn't whining. I think where he's getting at is the fact that vocals are sometimes worth more points than choreography. Idk how often score sheets do this, but I've seen a lot of groups win with just 'best choreography'. I've only done show choir for about 5 years, but it just seems like the scores are so complicated and subjective, all that matters is that the groups leave everything on the stage, which I'm sure everyone did. Thank you.

Thank you. I just want to know how points are used on the scoresheet is all. Like I thought most points were in vocals. I am not taking anything away from any group. I'm sure they all performed amazingly and were all deserving.

throws me off how in large mixed winning best vocals and best band gets you grand champ but in small mixed getting best vocals and best band gets you second. Indiana is beyond me.

This was my first show choir contest in about ten years. Surprisingly, not a whole lot has changed other than the use of stage lighting (I had a feeling that trend would come over from California).

I'm really impressed with the Indy groups. You all represented my city so well and put on a very solid and entertaining show. Great job to the hosts for a well-run event.

Hearing Tier II went 1st: New Castle, 2nd: Fairfield MS, 3rd: Roncalli, 4th: New Palestine, 5th: Marion. The schedule only has 4 tier II making finals, though, so not sure if they added a 5th finalist or just announced it that way during prelims. Anyone know?

Getting clear, accurate, and timely information on this event is like pulling teeth. I'm unconvinced that parts of Indiana realize it's 2017 and that the internet exists.

Small Mix captions Fairfield Rhythm Express Best Vocals and Best Band. New Castle has Best Visuals.

I know Fairfield Pure Elegance was Grand Champion. I think Pike was 1st runner up and Dekalb was 2nd runner up. BV, BC, BB to Fairfield.

For Large Mixed I heard some talk about solo heavy shows and how they afford the choir extended vocal breaks and such. Not sure about that but North Central was VERY GOOD.

Wow! Descants didn't place?
