Agreed. Their is soo much more involved than everyone usually thinks.
in your closer this year I see full body movement but in the rest it's basically just arms and in Jimmy Ray it is very repetitve... not dissing you because you guys are absolutely amazing this year..

but once again, the main basis of the move is explained by the choreographer. he will put basis on the main part of the movement, which in our show happens to be the full body. Each choreographer has his/her own basis

I wont defend anyone here, but we do alot of arm movements yes, but not only do we work hard on the angles and getting everything precise, but we work on where the feet and legs are supposed to be in precision to the arms. The Jimmy Ray, is anything but repetetive, we do the skip multiple times, yes. But ever move contemporates is own meaning in the song.
Thats what i think. Clinton in no way has easy choreography and is absolutely AMAZING with their show ALWAYS. But it is mstly arm movements from what i see and with the choreography we have in ALbertville s never just an arm movement its always involving our whole body. And i feel that its harder to sing with that. But you know alot of people might disagree and thats Okay.

April James- looks like mostly arm movements (never done a James show though, so I can't say how difficult it is)

agreed, but in my opinion, I believed the best execution of choreography is john burroughs, they perform full body movements as well as intense arm execution movements. They are precise and enjoyable when watching there show, especially thier dance break, there closer from 2009 for example, this most Godly/Beastly/Insane/Sick-Nasty/any other words that compare to GodLike describes their version of "The Pretender"

Speaking of enjoyment... I absolutely loved the fortune cookie idea. And the Best Costume award was the cutest and most innovative award I have ever seen. I'm not saying that there is any less choreo while they are singing, but it is definitely less strenuous. So it doesn't risk compromising their vocals.

We have to remember that "show" is half the word and "choir" is half the word. I know this sounds silly but when I was growing up I remebered it this way. If I'm not mistaken, vocals usually count about 60% of a group's overall score. But we have to remember about the other 40%. So, with those facts stated, I agree that a show choir should carry more weight vocally; however, I also believe that a show choir has to remember about the word "show." as scfan2 previously stated, if a group forgets about costumes, choreography, show design, performance, etc., then that choir may as well be a concert choir. Just my opinion.
AJ880liv, I do agree that vocals in my opinion should carry more weight. On the other hand if you are going to say it's only about vocals and choreo, costumes, overall effect , etc. count very little then it might as well be a concert choir competition and let's do away with all the rest. I don't claim to have all the answers, I just know that it seems like most times groups who do harder choreo, don't seem to get the credit.
Well in my opinion I think that placement and judging should be focused vocally. Choreography can be improved with repetition but vocals depend on coming together as a group and blending in with each other to produce a great sound. I have seen many show choirs that focus more on the "show" part of it. I'm sorry but while it has to do with entertainment, I believe that just because you have the creativity and money to have amazing sets and great effect, it shouldn't overshadow how some groups are up to par with vocals. I see this very much and although I was part of Pascagoula, I try to see groups and think like a judge. Many groups tend to fall off vocally especially during the end of the show, which always seems to be the part of the show that has the most backdrops and everything. I also see it with guys numbers and girls numbers. I am sorry but just because guys act all hot and everything and girls dance their tails off, does not mean that vocals don't matter. In general, I think that everyone does their own thing and sometimes achieves, but I don't always agree with rankings.
