I know some very limited points from finals out of six scoring judges, only how Xhilaration did relative to West Side Delegation:

Lovar Davis Kidd: -7
Alli Mauzey: -7
Gerald Kreitzer: -1
Everett Johnson: 0 (tie)
James Berry: +3ish (don't remember exactly)
Ann Schoenecker: +4

Its kinda too late now lol but James Berry had us up 2, not 3. Not like it really matters though

I want to reply to a couple of earlier posts but not shure how to do it correctly so I will cut and paste....

"First of all, it was great seeing you on Saturday. I hope that your son got some lasagna or chicken and wild rice. Secondly, yes, Benton has chosen to allow the videotaping of their competition."

No Benton does not allow video taping at their competition. It is written explicitly in the director's instructions. But is probably not communicated well enough to the public. If that has been a policy change, it is not changed in the director's packet.

"I'd like to add to what Adam said and go with sons of Dixie, our 2nd song in the medley is actually from a flop musical called civil war, great song but that musical is all about confederate soldiers during the civil war and the lyrics go along well with kneeling to the confederate flag, but because that was sketchy, we decided to kneel to the Georgia flag, which intertwines our songs even more and is more appropriate"

Civil War is not all about confederate soldiers during the Civil War...it shows the war from both sides of the fence equally, confederate and Union. Some truly amazing music in that show with a bad book. Check out Union High School's version at the Iowa All-State Speech festival next Saturday in Ames.....

Assuming 6 finalists in each competition and no automatic spot for a prep choir:
5*(1/1296) - 1/7776 = 29/7776 = 0.1157% or 1 in 864.

Actually it wouldn't matter if there were an automatic spot for a prep choir.

I love the "Viterbo Rule" too. I can't remember if it was 2007 or 2008, but that year we competed five times locally and at four of those we were selected to go first in finals through the random draw. Three of those four times we were the last group to perform in the daytime. One of those times we qualified for finals and so did our prep group. We were drawn like fourth to perform and Vitality was drawn like fifth. We obviously can't go back-to-back since one would be in warmup while the other was performing and both groups have basically the same band. So they put is first and last in finals, but since Studio was drawn before Vitality we had to perform first and Vitality performed last.

I'm terrible at math, but would be curious to know the probability of being selected to go first in four out of five competitions.

Jerk...it was all your fault!

Ok a few things:

1) I'M SORRY NICK!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I was a jinx for a lot of groups that day.

2) Trey, I liked your hair before, but you are a great fan! Reminds me of Wash swimmers- they did that every year.

3) you are right Travis, I totally forgot about Nashville.

And to you the 3rd spot was the worst spot... and long behold the Amp/speaker caught on fire for Souix City East (who performed 3rd)... pretty sure nick almost strangled you.

I'm probably not right (was almost a math teacher .. yikes!), but I think it's about 3%.

As far as I was aware there was nothing said prohibiting it, and i was sitting there all day listening. And there were about 10 parents around me that were video taping which is why i decided to get a few clips of my favorite songs, if i had heard strictly no taping i would not have.

But i would reccomend to people that are considering buying the DVD to do it, the shows were just fantastic and i thought the video crew did a wonderful job at getting some great angles, especially during Jefferson and Souix City Easts shows.

No worries, Chris. I didn't know Benton's rule, so that's why I asked. I just know there have been videos posted by others in the past from competitions where I know video recording is prohibited.

Does Benton allow video taping at their invitational? I've never been to their competition since it's on the same day as ours, but about 99% of the competitions I've been to prohibit it.

Just asking...

Cedar Rapids Jefferson Opener

I am sorry they are a bit shaky, trying to quit caffinee has really given me the shakes. And the guys song is a bit bright due to the White shirts and the lighting from where i was sitting.
