I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at Keokuk!!! What a great competition!!!
Johnston was as advertised. Their vocals were incredibly strong, but also with great musical moments in the ballad! The choreography was very clean and visual. Costuming was EXCELLENT. I totally had you guys in first with Best Vocals. By far the best vocal sound I've heard live this year- with the possibility of beating Waubonsie. You guys are fantastic- congrats on the win!
Naperville North. Your band was as advertised, as well. The horns were great, especially in the opener. You guys used a lot more guitars than Wash did, whereas Wash uses more horns, so I knew the band caption would be EXTREMELY close. I think the tie was probably the best solution You guys had a really fun show too! A very good sound and a very fun show! Congrats on this great placing!!!
Linn-Mar. I think you guys were the most invested in your show of anyone at Keokuk. You guys have a very powerful sound in your opener and closer. When your sopranos go high it is impressive. The ballad was very musical. I loved the strings in the band as well. Best of luck for the rest of the year!!!
Wahlert. I think I was most surprised by you guys. I got to see you last year, so I was expecting the lovely sound and mature ballad, but I was NOT expecting incredibly clean, visual, high-energy dancing. Congrats! I honestly felt like you guys could've been higher than 5th in day- I was really impressed with you guys! Very fun show, great band. Tons of faces and energy! Congrats!
I actually think the judges nailed this competition, including every single caption award. Johnston really brought it in both performances, and deserved the win. I'm just REALLY REALLY proud of Momentum for their day round 1st place (by 10 points with vocals and choreo) and the great performance in finals! You guys are so great to work with, and you have the most fun show of the entire year. Great job to everyone here!!!
In dramatic fashion, Naperville North "High Heeled Harmony" took 1st in the Prep Division snapping a Linn-Mar "In Step" 6-competition winning streak in a tiebreak which was broken by the vocal score! Nice job NN HHH! Watching the prep awards was intense! Wow.
Also quite a few folks were interested in the bands, Naperville North and CR Washington TIED for Best Band.
Some other captions:
Best Female Soloist - Johnston Jenna Smith
Best Male Soloist - CR Washington Shawndell Young
People's Choice - Linn-Mar "In Step"
Best Costumes - Johnston
Best Show Design - CR Washington
I've been listening/watching this live feed most of the day, admittedly I have multiple tabs open primarily working on SCC, and when Keokuk "Purple Harmony" performed their exhibition closer I was momentarily confused why Burbank's 2011 closer was playing (I watched that show like two days ago)... Keokuk did an excellent job with it! Very entertaining.
So I looked up last year's address for the live feed, and found this - and it looks like it's a go! (Guess we'll know for sure in about 10 min when the first group starts).
This is going to be an incredible competition for that caption alone. Linn Mar & Cedar Rapids Washington have fantastic bands! Johnston's is super strong as well... But I would not be surprised to see NN, LM, or CRW go home with the caption.
Linn Mar's band is basically non-existent actually.
But I hear Linn-Mar's band is great (sorry the no hyphen bugs me)
Edit. You can down-vote me all you want, but I went to Linn-Mar schools for 9 years so I know I'm right.

This looks like it'll be a really great competition! I'm curious as to how well Naperville North will place here.
I agree!!! Really looking forward to seeing Johnston live for the first time in a LONNNNNNNNNG time (probably almost 10 years for me) and looking forward to seeing Naperville North for the first time ever! Don't really know what to expect, but I'm thinking they could potentially sneak away with a win this weekend, based off of beating Carmel last weekend!
