To echo ChartWriter421, Contest of Champions was far from what was expected, but provided a great opportunity for the attending groups to gain some valuable exposure on the stage, and with the judges that offered guidance after each performance.
We also appreciated having several students from Castle HS (near Evansville, IN) join us to watch the shows yesterday.
When faced with a difficulty like we had with the weather, we were able to keep the enthusiasm and energy up throughout the day. Not only was there plenty of great food, but the attending parents were wonderful supporters of the all the groups. We really appreciated everyone being so flexible and patient with us.
Best of luck this season to all the show choirs out there!
Thanks so much for filling us in on the outcome. Can you list the groups who still participated? I see you mentioned some but I wasn't sure if that was a complete list. We can mark this event as non-competitive and still keep it in our records for historical reference. Thanks!
B.E.A.T. - Syncopation
Center Grove - Surround Sound
Center Grove - Debtones
Center Grove - Sound System
The weather leading up to Contest, and the snow we received Friday night and Saturday morning virtually ended the "competition" (in the trophy sense) aspect of the show, as it also took us from 21 registered choirs at one point to 4.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I was searching for results for this competition and I saw a tweet that said since so many of the groups had to drop out, they decided to just run it as a clinic for the groups that could attend. I also saw another tweet that said Edgewood was cancelled. So I think there will not be any results coming for this competition.
The first part of this post is correct.

That said, B.E.A.T.'s Syncopation, and ALL of the Center Grove choirs (Sound System, Debtones, and Surround Sound), did an OUTSTANDING job!
All choirs present, including host choirs, were able to watch and cheer on every show; and following performances, all choirs received a clinic from two or more of our panel of expert judges. Being so early in the season, it actually turned out to be a pretty great experience. We missed the choirs that were unable to travel, but those that were there yesterday made the most of the day - so we certainly thank them!

What is the status of this competition? I know this morning East Noble had received clearance from administration to make the trip down (since EN was closed today), but now I've heard it has been cancelled. SInce EN also had a group going to the Indy area for the weekend for the Indiana Thespian Convention and they made the trip, it sounds like Edgewood cancelled...
Thanks for the schedule - it's been posted above! Looks like a great line up! And it seems like the East Noble groups are ALWAYS getting confused, why is that? Haha.
Try being in it...I'm glad I was out before they added the third group. Scheduling is a nightmare. It's hard for competitions, it's hard on the performers...we let a few girls do both KR and PE and now all members of both choirs are in ANV so those girls perform between 3-6 times in a weekend, depending on finals placements. And when mixed finals are done regardless of small/championship distinctions and occasionally both ANV and KR make it, forget about it. Awards get screwy, everyone (including performers) get confused on which show is happening when, it gets weird. I'm not sure how Premiere Edition got mixed into the fray this time, normally they're the one choir people can keep straight as the girl's one. :/
At any rate, good luck to all choirs this weekend! It certainly does look like one to keep an eye on this Saturday.

Also are there Finals? The schedule doesn't show that there are, but the info packet on the event website says that there will be finals. Seems like it will be a late night if "Music Warehouse" performs until 9:45 PM, then prelim awards, 5 finalists (more or less), and then final awards? Does anyone know what the set up is?
Our director has informed us that there is not going to be finals at this competition. Just one performance, and then awards.
Also East Noble's Premiere Edition and Knight Rhythms are flipped on this, KR will perform on the 9.30am slot with the other varsity choirs.

Woah, I just realized how early in the season this competition is. Any reason for that?
Granted there are a lot of Edgewood folks on here who have the insider knowledge of how Contest of Champions is designed, but I think it's all about risk vs. reward.
Hosting a competition near the end of March has more of a risk, because it's at the tail end of traditional competition season, but has the reward of being one of few competitions taking place. Sometimes that risk has had huge rewards of being a marquee competition with big names (sort of like 2012) and then the 2013 edition was cancelled essentially due to a lack of attending choirs. While hosting a competition at the end of January has a lower risk being in the start/middle of competition season and potentially a lower reward of being one of many competitions on the same day.
This competition has also taken place in about every competitive month (January, February, March, and April) so perhaps after trying these different options the folks at Edgewood can pick a date and get back in the groove of stability. That is if stability is desired.
After taking a year off from hosting a competition, Edgewood High School would like to inform you all that its prestigious annual Show Choir competition, "Contest of Champions" will take place on January 25, 2014
For the past 21 years, Contest of Champions has consistently attracted Show Choirs from all corners of the country to the small town of Ellettsville, Indiana, for a one day showdown between the best of the best.
Past champions include:
Clinton HS 'Attache'
Mt. Zion HS 'Swingstaions'
Fairfield HS 'Choraliers
DeKalb HS 'Classic Connection'
Waubonsie Valley HS 'Sound Check'
