Last year, Homewood was able to say that they’ve won every currently hosted contest in the state, which at the time was Jasper, Albertville, Tallassee, Auburn, and Enterprise (note that Homewood does not compete at their own contest). This year, they are defending the “belt” as they came in 2nd to Auburn the only other time that this contest hosted high school groups. The only other group that achieved this distinction in the last 10 years was Opelika “Ovations” prior to Auburn’s first year hosting in 2018.
At least two different Homewood groups have made finals at all of the aforementioned contests in Alabama with the sole exception of Tallassee, which has not had finals since 2017. All three have made finals at Albertville, Auburn, and Enterprise; Network and Associate have made finals at Opelika; Network and Nexus have made finals at Jasper. Only five finalists at this competition and a strong lineup, but is it strong enough to hold Homewood to one spot?
Homewood is only missing four captions right now to not only win every currently hosted contest in Alabama, but all of the captions as well. Right now, they are missing Best Vocals and Best Overall Effect here, Best Choreography at Tallassee, and Best Vocals at Enterprise.
Auburn has a winning record over Homewood in the last ten years. Auburn beat Homewood at Jackson Prep 2015, Tallassee 2015, Tallassee 2016, Tallassee 2019, Opelika 2019, Oak Mountain 2021, and Tallassee 2024. Homewood beat Auburn at Jackson Prep 2017, Opelika 2018, Tallassee 2023, and Opelika 2023. For those keeping score, that’s 7-4 Auburn.
