Do you remember who won? I think it was THE CLASS ACT from LaCrosse Logan.

Arrowhead High School Broadway Bound. They were unstoppable that year. They were representing Wisconsin at The Young Americans National Invitational. Logan came in second.

You were right! I was doing some research this weekend and it looks like the first competition was in 1985, and yes, Lacrosse Logan won that competition.

I heard that there was only about a 5 point difference between 1st and 6th place during prelims. Must have been a tough competition to judge! Many of these groups will see each other again this season so it will be it interesting to see what happens! Congrats to all groups!

Can somebody explain how Monona Grove got 4th place but also best vocals? I'm curious on how the scoring works here.

The final placements were based on how the judges ranked the groups from 1-6 for vocals and choreography (I believe). I imagine that El-Paso, Holmen, and De Pere were all probably ranked very close to (but slightly lower than) Monona Grove on vocals. But collectively, these three groups all ranked significantly higher than Monona on choreography. So while Monona had best vocals, the collective rankings for the other three groups was higher.
