Thanks, Tony. Did Westwood MS end up performing too? They weren't mentioned in your daytime awards post.
Yep, they were the only ones in the middle school division and got first
So is this the full schedule of groups that were actually able to make it, then? Seems like a lot of groups dropped out then, so I just wanted to double check.

Unfortunately, LeMars Community has decided not to make the trip to Bishop Heelan today due to weather. We already have gotten a few inches of snow and are expected to receive 3-5 more plus high winds.
Third post in a row. Sorry, I'm at work and the edit button isn't working on this computer.
It is snowing pretty good out there right now and it isn't supposed to stop. It is also supposed to be very windy. I hope that this doesn't stop groups from coming. :\
I wouldn't count out Westwood, they are allways really good, and i give them a really good shot at finals.
Westwood has not missed finals at Heelan, to my knowledge, in a very long time. I know they haven't missed since I was a senior, and that was in 2009. And I think that the other two times we attended Heelan (06 & 07) they made finals, too. I do not have the resources to back that up, though.
Westwood is probably the best 2A show choir in Iowa and they have been for a very long time. Mr. Gerking has built himself a wonderful, wonderful little program that has been known to not only compete with, but actually beat high quality 4A groups in the past. Very impressive for such a small school.
(So yes, do not count them out because if they would miss finals, it would be an extremely big shock).
My guess is Sioux City East wins this competition relatively easily. But after that, it could be extremely close and go many different ways. I wasn't going to even try to predict placements, but what the heck.
GC. Sioux City East
1RU. Gretna
2RU. Norwalk
3RU. Westwood
4RU. Lewis Central
5RU. LeMars
Honestly, looking at the schedule and taking into consideration the history of each group, I just don't see anyone but these six groups making finals. However, Harlan is in their first year of competing so they could jump in there, too. Also, this is the first competition for a couple of these groups so that could change who makes finals, too. I really think that the battle between 1RU and 5RU is going to be insane. I cannot wait to hear how it goes!
This is the first competition of the season for my alma mater, LeMars. I thought I was the only musical one in my family, but it turns out my niece came out of nowhere and made Crimson and Black this season as a freshman woman, which doesn't happen very often at LCHS. I'm excited to finally be able to talk about experiences at competitions and such with her! Anyway, good luck to everyone competing here today. I wish I did not have to work so I could attend.
Also, if you are attending and you see Crimson and Black perform, yell something like "Uncle Ethan loves you Madisen" because I live for embarrassing my nieces and nephews

I agree, I love my babies in New Sound but I think it's going to be hard for them to try to make finals here.
