Whoops! Did not mean to come off sarcastic hahaha! The ellipsis at the end was for someone to correct me if I was wrong haahaha
Oh dang! My bad too then!!
Yeah, I believe it's April James this year. In previous years, Heather Hoppus has also contributed to Los Al's shows, but apparently not this year nor was she announced as a Los Al choreographer at the SoCal competition by Mr. A. So I'm pretty sure you're right, Andrew.
When you said my name I had a momentary freak out! I was like "How does this guy know my name? Have I met him somewhere?" Then I realized it was on my profile. *facepalm*

Thanks for the sarcasm. I didn't feel like checking so I asked to make sure my first thought was right.

The communication between a conductor and a choir is where some of the most meaningful musical moments can happen. It allows each performance to be different, tempos to be fluid and informed by the emotion and story, dynamics organic and yet unified. I never conduct the same piece exactly the same. That's my favorite part about teaching choirs!
Non-conducted a cappella (or non a cappella) pieces can be just as stunning and show off different skills and strengths. Its all about what fits the music best. At least in my opinion...
Didn't the judges get to see the shows once on Friday night, then provide commentary? If so, then performance time on Saturday would be completely irrelevant because the judges would already have an idea of which groups would go out and provide top caliber performances, and they would've already seen all the groups so they don't have to leave scoring rooms for groups who haven't performed yet (assuming that judges do this).

It seems a bit random, but some of the groups that could have gone either way or scored close seemed to got to the later group (Like Center Grove and Jenks something that really could have gone either way because they are both great schools (no this does not mean I'm saying one should have one and the other shouldn't I'm just giving an example)). But my idea doesnt work when it comes to Burroughs and Los Al...
It's also interesting if you analyze it from the performance order perspective. Posted above are groups in order of placement, but you can switch it back to order of performance and it's just kind of cool to see how performance time and placement relate. So I agree, interesting.
It is interesting . . .

If the song is a capella and has complex rhythms and textures, though, I think the presence of a conductor is worth it if it makes a difference in the sound.
Personally I feel that when a groups director conducts for them, its not distracting in the slightest. Yes it will help them with cutoffs of phrases among other things, but lets all be honest here, even if a group like "Powerhouse" didn't have their director conducting, that ballad would have still been phenomenal!
I don't usually post scores but since so many people are asking (and there is a lot of misinformation being posted)
Thanks Häakon! Another reason why you're the best! And I mean, can you really blame SCCers for wanting to know full results?
The gaps just get progressively bigger as you go down... It looks odd because two groups will be a point apart and then the next one will be ten down... Thats really interesting...

Is there any reason that show choir scores are any different, or can we just chalk this up to personal preference/preference of the competition runners? Personally, I'd love to see scores posted on a regular basis because I'm kind of a stat junkie myself.
Personally I think it's ultimately up to directors/competition runners. Very few schools that host competitions have informative and updated websites and rarely post full placements, prelims placements, or scores on those websites. So the full information that we all love to know is really only ever given to directors. Some do a great job of being transparent and posting the information on our forums, while others are not quite so prompt. Overall I agree with you, it would be cool to see more of that on here.

You do have a valid point, but I believe John was just joking in response to Scott's previous post. John has been known to post facetious material.
Rule of thumb: If a choir needs its director to come out and direct them, something's wrong.

Thanks, Häakon! I do have a question about this, though. For years, I've wondered why scores are rarely available after show choir competitions. Marching bands, jazz choirs, barbershop choruses, etc. will regularly post scores up on their websites. Is there any reason that show choir scores are any different, or can we just chalk this up to personal preference/preference of the competition runners? Personally, I'd love to see scores posted on a regular basis because I'm kind of a stat junkie myself.

Does anyone have complete scores, please? I can't wait to see the entire results line up! Like all 19 groups! I think it will be interesting to see the list from 1 to 19 for Mixed Division (and 1 to 11 for the Women's). Can anyone post the point spread? Does anyone know the Single-Gender placings?
