To everyone who came out to Dutch Masters this weekend....THANK YOU! This is our fifth year of hosting this competition, and I truly feel it gets better every year. From the great food, wonderful photographs by Stover Photography, amazing decorations, top-notch video production by Blue Sky Productions, awesome judges, energetic performers, gracious student hosts, helpful backstage crew, to the scores of parents/grandparents/friends/family/show choir crazies who came out to support each of the groups on stage, it was an amazing weekend. I am honored to get to emcee this event, and the quality of performance (and character) I see displayed by the students on stage at Dutch Masters each year exemplifies for me the importance of vocal music education in our schools. So to each of the groups who performed at Dutch Masters this year...thank you. You guys are all fantastic, and we wish you the best of luck in everything you do. Can't wait to see you all again next year! (and keep an eye out on YouTube for your Harlem Shake video.... 1 back-flipping gorilla + 1000+ people going crazy = Harlem Shake Domination!)
Does anyone have the complete middle school results from Friday night?
Friday night results:
MS Champion: Johnston Impact
First runner-up: Waukee South "En Fuego"
Second runner-up: LaSalle MS "Center Stage"
Third runner-up: Waukee South "High Octane"
Fourth runner-up: Dallas Center-Grimes "Illusion"
Fifth runner-up: Excelsior Middle School "Double Time Show Choir"
There were caption awards for best band/choreo/vocals in the MS division, but for the life of me, I can't remember them this morning. The middle school competition Friday night was a lot of fun. The kids all did a great job. Already excited for next year's competition!
They both choreographed for Central Lee. They both critiqued during the day round. Before the Finals Round, us directors we asked if any of us objected to them giving points in the Finals considering Central Lee was in the Finals. None of us objected. Also, groups were rank based on each judges scores and that gave the outcome. Actually, Mount Pleasant and Center Point-Urbana tied in the Finals, so the tiebreaker went to the cumulative overall score which had Mount Pleasant winning by 3 points over CPU.
I only ask this because I know these two get around small school Iowa..... but did LD Kidd or Anne Chapman choreograph any of these groups? I just assume they do since they choreograph everywhere down around SE Iowa. I would think that would be an unfair judging panel.
