Just as a side note, the choreographer for the GC and best choreo group was a judge at this competition. I know that this caused a lot of unrest between other groups, which they have the right to be upset about this. Just to let everyone know
2) Why does Sauk have one of the weirdest score sheets I've ever heard of? Categories such as "artistry in story"? While not even having a "Difficulty of choreography"? I understand Sauk Prairie does a "theme" but why does their score sheet have to fit along the kind of show they perform? It gives an unfair advantage to groups such as Mayville over Milton and IC West who do not perform themed shows.
I agree that it's strange to omit a difficulty of choreography category because it makes a HUGE difference! I would like to see a list of the contest rules because many contests make it clear if there is no repertoire requirement, in which case having "artistry in story" would be totally unfair. But idk what the rules for this one were. If I was judging a group without a themed show, though, I would probably score them on interpretation of context. All songs have texts that need to be sung a certain way. In the wise words of the hilarious George Carlin, "You can't just know the notes you play. You have to know WHY they need to be played!"
Because its a centrally located Wisconsin competition?
I think what Scott was getting at was that it's a calculated risk that directors should be aware of. Location shouldn't really be much of a factor, a lot of groups in the Midwest travel great distances and across state borders to attend various competitions and Wisconsin had another in-state competition this week at Altoona, which might not be as centrally located, but again calculated risks.
Unless Sauk changed the scoresheet without telling anybody, directors know what they're going to be judged on going to this contest. Clearly storytelling is important to the good people at Sauk. If directors don't prepare to be judged on it, why pick this contest to go to?

There is no "right way" to have a scoresheet, but I think categories such as that are very iffy to have as a category.

Note: I saw Mayville at Muscatine and have also seen Milton, I am not saying what happened was wrong or inaccurate because I thought Mayville looked very solid at Muscatine but I just find a category like that to be highly unfair
