Can anyone expand on these with some rankings of the other choirs? I am ridiculously intrigued to see where the rest of the field were in the rankings, especially considering the grand champs didn't receive a single first place. What a crazy close competition.
:snip:
Thank you, Martin. Everything has been updated. The middle school/9th grade results have also been posted on the Johnston Showzam (Day One) page which can be found through the events/calendar tabs or by clicking here.
They've updated their web site with all the final results etc. and information regarding DVDs and pictures to order.
Heard it was a great contest - wish I could have been there...

Woo, my first correctly predicted competition of the season. So clearly the 7 finalists was a program mistake, then? Congratulations to Mr. Temple and Urbandale on grabbing grand champs!
1st place: Dowling Catholic "Dimensions"
2nd place: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline"
3rd place: Urbandale "Studio 2013"
4th place: CR Jefferson "West Side Delegation"
5th place: Des Moines Lincoln "Infinity"
6th place: West Des Moines Valley "Choralation"
Peoples choice award: West Des Moines Valley "Choralation"
Best female soloist: Dowling?
Best male soloist: not sure yet!
This makes me very happy. Even if it doesn't stick in finals, SO GOOD for Dowling. I feel they have been the most underrated choir in Iowa the past few years.
1st place: Dowling Catholic "Dimensions"
2nd place: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline"
3rd place: Urbandale "Studio 2013"
4th place: CR Jefferson "West Side Delegation"
5th place: Des Moines Lincoln "Infinity"
6th place: West Des Moines Valley "Choralation"
Peoples choice award: West Des Moines Valley "Choralation"
Best female soloist: Dowling?
Best male soloist: not sure yet!
I'm very excited to see a Jody White led Dowling show choir. I've been trying for a couple of years to get her to come to a metro event (ours), but she always politely declined.
Dowling was absolutely fantastic last year, grabbing 3RU at Hastings and Grand Champion at Emmetsburg (where I saw them). Nothing flashy about their show, but it is very clean and sung extremely well. Dowling has quickly become one of my favorite show choirs year in and year out.
Predictions:
GC. Urbandale
1RU. Ankeny
2RU. Cedar Rapids Jefferson
3RU. West Des Moines Dowling
4RU. West Des Moines Valley
5RU/6RU??. Des Moines Lincoln/Lewis Central
I don't know the answer to your questions, but I can run them by Mr. Shepard. I noticed the tight turnaround from awards to finals. I hope my group isn't in that first slot.

I just thought to pull up the pdf copy of the schedule on their web site, and it only creates more confusion I'm afraid! (they have 2 #4s for finals, lol) which I suspect led to there being 7 finals spots listed when it got copied over (thanks to a nifty auto correct perhaps?).
Now that there has been enough time and transition between when Jody was at Johnston and new leadership under Eric, I'm sure the awkwardness of the 2 groups going up against each other has now completely faded (not to mention any hint of impropriety should Dowling place well!). I know they'll go head to head for the first time up at Hastings this season - which will be conflicting for me! Perhaps they'll tie and solve everything.
Now that I go back and peruse this a bit - I have a couple questions.
1 - are they having 7 at large finalists, or is it the top 6 with the prep group champion competing, (or just in exhibition)?
2 - is there no dinner break? The schedule (which I copied and pasted right from the web site, and it hasn't changed there...) seems to go right from awards at 6:40 - which will surely go for a half hour or so by the time you get everybody in and out, then to the first finals group at 7:15pm. I wonder if all those will end up being bumped an hour later?
Anyway - whatever times they end up being, I wish I could be there. I think it's very cool Jody White is bringing Dowling over for the day!
