This competition was fantastic! Such fun was had by all. The level of support from competing choirs was also VERY refreshing. Thank you to Waconia "The Current" for being RCR "fans" in the day. Your cheers and enthusiasm was much appreciated by the group and did not go unnoticed.
Shout out to Mt. Prospect... not only did you deliver TWO phenomenal performances (I only caught prelims, but heard finals was awesome as well), you are some of the classiest kids I've encountered in all my years in show choir. Your show is fantastic and I am super impressed with Alex's work. I was ecstatic to see you do "Flight" as your ballad (you should ask Alex why ). I wish I could see that show live one more time! Can't wait to see what the future holds for your talented group. Your prelims performance was just a knock out- I still can't get over it.
Muscatine's first trip to Illinois was a perfect way to end the season- we hope to return someday!
Congratulations to everyone who competed! There were so many fantastic groups, I had no idea how the awards would turn out. I'm doing my best to clear up my fuzzy memory (I had a pretty bad headache all through finals), so if I leave anyone out, I'm sorry!
Buffalo Grove: Congrats! Your show was a very traditional approach to show choir, which is always very refreshing. I have to say straight away that I was mostly paying attention to your band due to the hype. You handled the jazz style very well, and I loved the flugelhorn in the ballad. The drummer kept great time, but played it a little too safe for my taste. I noticed some intonation issues in the trumpets during prelims which covered the lovely trombone and sax sound. I wish your guitar player wasn't ripping it up on an Ibanez through a Line 6. I realize that sometimes the equipment you have access to isn't always an option, but I will never enjoy the sound of a Line 6 amp. All of these things aside, you did great. I hope this didn't come across as too negative, I certainly don't mean to discredit your awards. Congratulations on your success! I never mind having my predictions proven wrong when it is well deserved!
Waconia: I'm so proud to be a Po Co and Watt alum, relentless fan of Waconia's program, and especially to have the lovely Best Female Soloist as my girlfriend ;) I'm so glad The Current finished their season on top! Not gonna lie, after watching a few of the other prep groups, I was a bit worried! You faced some pretty intense competition, so be proud! Power Company, wonderful job!!! You had such a fantastic season and it was so much fun following you! I feel like a broken record in saying that lesser quality prelims shows count so much in competition, but you came back anyway! I'm very sorry that those strange opinions got so tied into your prelims scores. The criticisms that I heard were so inaccurate.. Oh well. Judges gon' judge. Great season Waconia, I can't wait to come watch the Spectacular!!!
Prospect: I didn't get a chance to see you in prelims, but I really enjoyed your finals show! Unfortunately, your show is landing in the fuzzy area of my memory, but I do remember that I thought you were great! Congratulations!
Westside: I loved your energy so much! I missed your finals show, but I loved you in prelims. The whole stage separating thing was crazy cool! Very creative. Your show style really reminded me of Totino Grace's usual feel. That's a great thing, trust me! I wish I could flip and jump and spin and what not like that one guy! Wow. Once again, great job!
Manteno: I'm sorry, but your show is stored away in the depths of my mind's fuzziness. I remember laughing to myself about how your girls are almost all total doppelgangers of my friends. Weird! I loved the white dresses, and the boys' costumes were pretty dang sharp as well. I hope I can recollect the rest of my experience watching your show, because I know I enjoyed it.
Muscatine: Wow. I loved your show so much! So different and so entertaining!! I loved the stylistic 180 between the two halves of the show. The story was really clearly told and it was extremely creative. I loved rolling in the deep! It was probably my favorite show choir version of the song that I have seen. The crowd seemed to be really engaged in your show, too! Lots of "oooh"s and "ah"s. Fantastic work!
All of the groups who competed were probably the biggest collection of "clean" choreography I have seen. I know I left too many groups out, but my head is still quite bothersome. Thank you so much to every single group for making Showcase 2012 so entertaining. Congratulations, again, to everyone who competed! Can't wait for next season!
