The one that always sticks out in my mind is Cedar Rapids Kennedy 2007. Only 7 groups showed up, they canceled finals, we left early, and it still took us 4 hours to get to Davenport from Cedar Rapids. Boy was that storm a doozy

It's every event organizer's nightmare. We've only had to cancel ours once in almost 30 years <knock wood> and we were able to reschedule it for later in the year with about 70% of the groups still attending.

Ever since then we have purchased insurance that protects us against the loss of income from a weather event.

That's really smart. I wouldn't have thought of that. Plus, it always seems to snow that weekend!!! I remember in 08 Benton cancelled their finals, and I drove from Lincoln to Urbandale just for finals. That was a good one too!

Yeah, this competition was cancelled. I was supposed to work it later in the day but got a call around 5:45 saying it was cancelled. We have had one of the warmest Januarys on record and even just this week it was 60 degrees a couple days, it sucks that this has to happen today.

I've raced with sled dogs in the frozen tundra!

As for competitions, no... they never get canceled here due to weather. Thankfully we don't have any that start at 7:30 in the morning, either.

Ok that is the most adorable picture ever! I want to go sled dog racing!!!!

I think people might be using it to dislike the situation, rather than the comment. As in, "boy that sucks that you can't go because of weather - dislike!"

But what do I know.

The one "good" thing from the blizzard is hopefully they won't be having varsity groups performing at 7:30. I would hope the schedule would be altered a bit, at least to give groups more time to travel.

I can't believe people thumbs downed this comment. He is exactly right in what he said. But PLEASE. If you guys traveled 5+ hours that day 6 years ago in that blizzard please feel free to correct him...

Any news about if Pleasant Hill made the 5 hour drive? If so getting home might be interesting

Yea we won't be there but I also heard elkhorn south won't be attending either due to weather. And I would be surprised if the Grand Island groups went... They're expected to have 10-15 inches tonight and early tomorrow.

Ralston RUSH will not be attending because of the impending bad weather. I've heard other Omaha and surrounding area schools may not be going either for the same reason, but I'm not sure which ones.
That really sucks :/

That's too bad that you guys have cancelled already. Is Omaha getting hit really bad right now? Lincoln is just getting some small flakes and a bit of rain, nothing bad yet, although I hear everything from rain to a foot of snow possible, so who knows...

My Predictions
GC: Pleasant Hill
1RU:Norris
2RU: Elkhorn South
3RU: Ralston
4RU: Dowling Catholic
5RU: GISH

Ok, I have not seen all these groups, and alot of the ones that i have seen are all pretty much at the same level. Enough so that it really would be very close. I am making some with this one. I saw Norris do really well Millard West, deserving that GC. However, from what I've seen of Pleasant Hill last year , i though it will be cool to see how they are this year.

Then I have Elkhorn South and Ralston. Ralston beat Elkhorn South at Gretna, but i know that Elkhorn South really worked hard and have bested them the last two weeks, making their vocals and choreo very clean and solid, it may be close.

The last two can really be anyone. I placed Dowling up there and then GISH . but I've also seen the shows of Elkhorn , Papio , Gretna , Lewis Central, and GINW. Who all have pretty good shows that have the potential to make finals. Not to mention Lincoln East, Lincoln Northeast, and Lincoln Pius X, who i have not seen.
Excited to see how it all plays out!

Predictions:

GC: Norris
1RU: Pleasant Hill
2RU: Ralston
3RU: Elkhorn South
4RU: GISH
5RU: Dowling Catholic

BV: Norris
BC: Pleasant Hill
BB: Norris

Alot of my predictions here are just guessing and what I've heard from others, considering that I've only seen the full shows of 2 of the groups I have in my list. So please, don't take anything I say to heart.

I could see the top 3 spots going in any order. I've seen Ralston multiple times this year and I personally think they're great, but I'm not sure if they're quite up to Norris or Pleasant Hill. But I think they (Or even Elkhorn South) have the chance to win it all. I've only heard things about Norris this year and based off of what I've heard, I put them in 1st. But since I haven't actually seen them, I can't give an accurate opinion. And I saw only part of Pleasant Hill's show at their competition. And I was in a bad place, so I couldn't see alot. But from what I saw, and from seeing past results from when they competed here, I can see them being in the top 3.

I placed Elkhorn South where I did because even though I think they're amazing this year and they have beat Ralston twice now, I personally think that Ralston has a stronger show. It's very possible for them to be fighting for that top spot though. They and Ralston are at pretty much the same level this year.

The last 2 spots were complete guesses based off of past results. GISH has been getting better the last couple years and although I haven't seen them this year at all, I think they can rock it and make it into the top 6. Also, I know nothing at all of Dowling Catholic, but I looked at past results from this competition and saw that they made the top 6 a few times, but usually somewhere under 2RU.

I think alot of this competition is going to be a surprise and I'm excited to watch on Saturday. Good luck to all of the groups competing and travel safely, because of the snow predictions.
