Very cool mom, congratulations! Where is it at? Rian, Nick and I have been talking and we're really excited for you to come out and for Nick to go out there. I think we're going to see some great things happen with a little time.
Kev and Rian- since I haven't seen you in off topic lately I thought I'd tell you here- Rent opened last night and X nailed the big "I'll Cover You" reprise. I was a proud mom!
Nick and Jenibelle- you guys should go see it. The kids are really doing a great job. It was an open call to all Albuquerque- so there are great voices from all over.

I'm working as fast as I can ;). Nick is right, him and I will be collaborating on a few projects next season, as well as assisting with a few groups. I'm looking forward to helping Nick launch his choreography, which is really good, to the midwest.
I know that next year things are going to be different. I think that this year was scary enough for directors to realize that changes have to be made. Here's hoping for the best.
Rian should definitely come to NM...he might be surprised with some of the things we've got going on here....Come on Rian you know you want to come to NM!!!
Nick is going to graduate soon....let's abuse him!!! He is an amazing vocal teacher as well as choreographer. Kids can relate to him and respect him very much, he is a very talented up and coming director and he has a lot to offer.
I think it's a great idea. Start with baby steps. New Mexico, I think, needs an overhaul of how we compete, but it can't be done without more help from not only the outside show choir world, but from the directors there now.
I think that is a really cool idea. It gives groups something else to focus on instead of "the one big night". It provides groups with a positive experience and gives them time to perfect their show. I also agree with Nick, everything needs to stop being so secretive and self centered, especially here in Albuquerque. We need to work together as a community to build something great.
I always thought it would be neat to do in Show choir what they do in track, wrestling, and cross country with things like duals, quads, etc. You could have small competitions with 3-6 competitors and make it a 3-4 hour event and maybe have a finals. Do it on a Friday night and make it like a sporting event. You could have it in an auditorium and not have all the hoop-lah of a normal invitational. It could get people excited and make it ultra-competitive.
With NM's isolation to the major competitive Show Choir circuits this would be an awesome test field.
I agree. Albuquerque could be an emerging city for show choir, but the show choir environment is too cut-throat competitive. If each school did an invitational, if judges with more experience in show choir were hired, and if the work each school did didn't come down to one, single day of competition, show choir in Albuquerque could thrive. But right now it is so negative that directors and schools are getting burnt out and not putting in all they can because it is only for ONE competition. Also, many of the bigger show choir programs in ABQ are transitioning to directors with little or no show experience at all. What are other people's thoughts?
