O.K. remember they are a tour company first. They sell the trips and rooms and the contests are there so they can do so. Video experts I would think not. I always felt that the groups would have more fun going to a school sponsered contest out of state. Instead of spending two years of savings to attend an event that turned out to have 5 groups there. I do not have a video from a school contest as bad as the ones from Fame.

It wasn't just John Burroughs that sucked! It was alllll groups!

How aggravating... I'll be writing an email.

Awesome!

Hey Haakon...
I have emailed Bert Johnson at Fame regarding the horrible DVD quality. He replied how it was Powerhouse's lighting etc as to why it was so bad. And that HD quality would be more expensive. I mentioned that maybe if they had actually communicated with YOU, it may have been able to be worked out.
Bert Johnson also said that he had received no other complaints.
So PLEASE everybody complain!!!

I am sure he would love to be flooded with complaints!

Thats exactly what I said to him!
I told him..."That "technical" talk may work with someone who is not in the business, but that I am, and I know what bad lighting does to video....and that was NOT it."

He also told me that the sound was the way it was because they think it adds to the energy of the recording by having the audience sound. And that to get perfect sound the bands need to be plugged into the amps....

I said...."If you know you are recording sound, you should have the proper equipment for the bands to plug into."

ARGGHHH he made me mad!!

As someone who works in television production, i can tell you that's the most ridiculous answer he could have given. Of course lighting effects video, but there are adjustments that can be made. At the very least, they could issue a disclaimer to the participating choirs that they will guarantee FAME's video equipment only at specific light levels. What BS.

I would be more than happy to film these things in HD (like I did in Chicago last year) so we actually have quality, lasting memories of these amazing shows. I have contacted them several times to make something more official, but they are extremely busy and I don't believe really understand what a desire there is to get this done right. If you would like better videos at these competitions, I would strongly urge you to contact FAME directly and let them know that the current method is just not cutting it. I'm extremely disappointed, too, but they aren't going to make a change if people keep buying the bad product and don't speak up about it.

BTW, here is a direct comparison of the two videos from FAME Chicago last year:

the caption awards were based on prelim scores. Counterpoints were 1st in every field ahead of Powerhouse. That switched in finals.

if i remember correctly, powerhouse jumped ahead vocally in finals, but counterpoints got best visuals by three points in finals. possibly. i might be hallucinating.

and also, my fame dvd is absolute crap. the only thing i like about it is the fact that it pans out so much, so you get to see the full effect of the choreo. sound quality, though, is awful!

It looks and sounds bad.

I've seen and heard worse though.

The DVD from last year's Fame Chicago is excellent. Wonder why there would be such a difference.

come on though didn't we all have a gut feeling that PH was gonna blow everyone away with their finals performance LOL. Good Luck next year PH going for 4 Fame GC's in a row!

wow, PH winning is like a repeat of the Show Choir Cup in 1997. They won, but with no caption titles. Out of curiosity, how does that work? where a group wins the title and yet another group wins both choreo and music? It just seems a little confusing to me. But congratulations to PH.

Has anyone else received their DVD copy of Finals?
Is it absolutely horrible quality? or is it just mine?
Cant see the kids faces....all digitized....

I agree. NY was an experience of a lifetime. I was in awe of everyones amazing performances. It was such an honor to actually compete with the mixed choirs at FAME. I am so proud of Sound Sensations, and how we performed. 5th place seems really great when we competed against such amazing choirs. I can't wait for next year's competition!!!

NY was so awesome, and it was so nice meeting everyone. I agree with Allie, i will never forget this amazing competition. Even though i came home with bronchitis, two ear infections and the flu.....haha. All you choirs were so amazing it made me sick!!!

<3

i look forward to competitions in the future.

Thank you for being an intelligent performer and leaving the stage when that occurred! I saw it... and I have had that happen to me before. It is sooo distracting... (especially in the ballad), but you handled it like a pro. Kudos to you and I hope your throat is feeling better!
