Wes isn't necessarily saying that you weren't the best group there. He is simply just saying that it is your opinion that you were. Obviously, the highly paid professional judges thought otherwise, and it's their opinions that matter. (Not saying that yours doesn't, but, yeah...)
It's just like someone coming onto this thread, saying Milton was the best group at Grand River, and that they deserved to win over Totino. That would be that person's opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

But what i do agree on is that we did get robbed because the group that beat us was simply not better than us......im sure everyone at that competition would have had us getting Grand Champion. But its what ever. We got what we got..maybe everyone didnt see what the judge saw, but its alright im fine with how this season ended up.....(in a way) ha.
This is what happened to us at Albert Lea. We got grand champ in our division, best combo and best female soloist, and we ended up 1st runner-up. It did hurt, but I guess our season could've been worse. Congratulations to all the wonderful choirs out there, it was a really great season!!
No john brown that is not what happened to us. there are many competitions when groups get best male and female soloists...and get best combo and may not even make finals. Getting Grand Champion in our division had nothing to do with how we would have been placed over all. We were placed in class A division based on how big our school was...and out of all the schools that were in our division we received Grand Champion during the day time because we were better than all the other class A groups. There could have been groups that are class B and still be better than a class A group...they would just simply be considered a class B group because of how big their school is. I don't think I have ever heard of a competition where a group takes BV and BC and then doesn't win. I am sure COS did a great job but I feel bad for Milton. I can only imagine what they were thinking when they were so excited about getting their awards and then hearing their name called for 1RU. How does something like this happen? Wow is all I have to say.

Hehehe... You caught that too? It is just too easy to smell the rats on this website. How foolish does one need to be to actually think they really get away with it?
Im an alum. That lives in La Crosse. " border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
Can i just say i absolutley loved this competition. I was looking forward to it all year and it did not disapoint me. The venu is incredible and so cool to perform in a huge space. The food was awesome although sometimes pricy for a poor kid like me hehe just kidding.
I also love the solo competition i finally got the guts up to do it was was very pleased. i think that more competitions should have that element because not everyone has a long enough solo in a show to have a chance to win
Rob, I would just like to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! This competition was awesome and working with you this year was just as amazing if not more. Its fun to talk to someone who loves show choir as much as i do hehe. I loved what you did with our show it was so much fun and so creative. Also thank you for all your patients with us this year. I hope your back next year and I'm surely going to try and make it to your competition next year. Thanks for all you did AND YOU BETTER COME SEE OUR EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!!!!
Also comgrats to Totino COS. I LOVE YOUR SHOW! i have seen it at least like 7 times this year and EVERY time i get excited to watch it, it is such a fun show and you execute it SO well. Congrats on the BIG FINISH
Milton 73 has Mo Show- 3rd runner up- best use of props. (Did you guys have props at one time because I don’t remember them? ) Bottom line is we can pick and pick and pick and we will always find fault with something.
Haha Tim!
Read Jordan's (milton73) signature carefully, it says best use of prop. It's kinda the joke of the year for us, as we only have one prop. We bring out a mace (band leader thingy) during Alexander's Ragtime Band. We laugh at it every time we see the trophy.
there should be no judges in show choir. there should not be awards. there should not be money. everyone in the audience should just vote if they please for the show they thought was the most entertaining and appealing. judges never do what is supposed to happen and everyone should just get over it. because, seeing RC has had some problems this year with that subject we learn to let it go because it doesn't matter. no one in ten years will remember who got BEST VOCALS or BEST BAND. they should only remember the amazing memories you will cherish for the rest of your life. the goal of show choir is to sing and dance your heart out with every fiber of your being and sharing the love you have with others in your choir while providing the greatest and most fun show you can to an audience. beyond that it truly does not matter. when we got ripped off at Eau Claire we were very angry but as the season went on we just stopped caring more and more about placing because that should absolutely not be the deciding factor on whether you are happy with yourself, a competition, or any choir including yours. i think this is a huge problem in the show choir world. and judging should be disposed of. it's dumb and all it does is cause unhappy and bitter emotions everywhere and that's just...DUMB!
So a little birdie told me the other day that the 2009 Grand River Inventational is rumored to be bigger and better then ever. I'll give you guys a little hint...catwalks, students and show choir costumes.
Signing out from this fun filled 2007-2008 show choir season.
Let’s face it. Every competition can be picked apart and find something negative. That is what we as musicians are programmed to do. We are perfectionists and when things aren’t perfect, we look for our mistakes and try and correct them. Like it or love it, it is inherent in musicians and what makes us such a motivated group of people! We should use that power for good and not evil!
I will have to say, just reading people’s signatures here; I have found two from competitions that stick out. PLS Titanium has Omaha’s north Viking cup- Grand Champion but no captions ☹ I guess that might be another example of what happened at Grand River? Milton 73 has Mo Show- 3rd runner up- best use of props. (Did you guys have props at one time because I don’t remember them? ) Bottom line is we can pick and pick and pick and we will always find fault with something.
I usually do not post on SCC. I let Rob take on that responsibility. He is a great representative for Grand River Singers and always acts for the good of the group and is second to none in making sure that everyone is happy. If there is a problem or concern, I can tell you, if you are a director, there is nobody I would want on my side to address it other than Rob. He epitomizes fairness, integrity and good sportsmanship and I can tell you these are areas nobody on this board can even dare question about Rob. How this all evolved is beyond me but it needs to end…
Putting aside my role as organizer, as a spectator at Grand River, all I can say is WOW! I really can’t think of a closer competition that I went to this year. Milton, your opener and the Cold as Ice was hot, hot, HOT! It actually brought a tear to my eye thinking I had the honor of having you at Grand River Invitational. If there was a moment that I knew all this hard work is worth it, it was then!
Totino- Watching you work was a lesson in professionalism from the moment you backed into the lot until you performed on stage. And when you kicked up the performance level at night, I knew watching it would be a knock out, drag out fight. It was very moving seeing you Saturday. We have some pictures to email you! You should be super proud as well.
Hastings- I didn’t get to see your final because we moved in to warm up after you. Your warm up seemed great and everyone had smiles and seemed ready to give it your all. Love the Boxing scene!
Chi-Hi- I love the old Manhattan Transfer opener. That brought back memories of High School for me! (No knocking on my age here ) Cool theme and nicely executed!
NSP- You improved from the first time that I saw you at Sauk?? (I think) Neat theme too and I love City Rhythm!
Testostertones- Fun! I can’t wait to see you progress in your second year! I think you may inspire a few more male groups to be born " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> However; nobody will ever be able to capture the novelty of your name. How great!
See, the day had brilliantly shinning moments. I couldn’t be more proud of all of our hosts and all performers. Remember, competitions end but the memories will last forever. I know I will always remember what I saw on stage that night. Congrats to ALL!
So, is Lanphier going to be making an appearance at Grand River next year, or...?
Hehehe... You caught that too? It is just too easy to smell the rats on this website. How foolish does one need to be to actually think they really get away with it?
I personally do not think that the scoring system needs to be looked at. Each competition is different, and each host group puts together judging sheets by what they feel is important in a good show choir.
Considering I am a senior in the group that fell to this so called "issue", and I am not complaining about it, I don't see why people who aren't even affected by this are getting bent out of shape about the judging system. I am not mad at all at Rob or Grand River, because of what they feel is important in a good show. I will quote my post from earlier (written in a post to Totino)
Its the truth, and people not affected by this should just calm down.
And to echo others... thanks Rob and the rest of Grand River for hosting an amazing competition. Even with our final results, I know that I performed my best show ever, and I will always remember my last competition as a great one!!!
I have seen your show 4 times this year and each time I am amazed by the power and quality of your group's vocals. You should be proud of what you accomplished this year!
