As a choreographer & judge I rarely post on showchoir.com because I think it is tacky of directors and choreographers to do so, and that this site actually does more harm than good... but under the circumstances I think it is important to make a statement.

I try to avoid judging my own groups at all costs but on occasion it does happen. Southwestern wasn't attending this contest until they were a last minute entry when a scheduling conflict came up at another contest they were suppose to compete at.

I DID offer to step down off the judging panel because I don't think it is fair to MY GROUPS for me to judge them because I am harder on them and score them lower than others would. All involved in this decision encouraged me to stay on as a judge and that it would be alright... so I did & was stressed about it all day long today.

And it looks like I should have stepped off the panel because as anyone can see who looks at the scoring breakdown will see that I had Southwestern overall in 4th place and they would have WON the contest had it not been for my low scoring of their performance. Both of the other two judges had them in first.

I stand by my score and congratulate all the groups who competed today. But don't post on here taking away from a group that had an up-hill battle and still came out with a good placing.

Thanks- Jason Johnson

p.s. 2005 Southwestern vs. Pike.... please, no contest ;)

Capital's vocals were amazing! I was so pleasantly surprised by your show. You had so much energy and enthusiasm. Your ballad soloist was outstanding. Well deserved GC!

Southwestern maybe should have won choreography anyway, but I would think the award wouldn't mean quite as much when your choreographer judged you..

It was my last show choir competition cause I am a senior and I am so glad to go out like this, plus we have had a long and hard year on us, so thank you to everyone that was there and supported us in this! WOW! St. C got 4th I was very suprised on that one, there show is very entertaining, and Southwesteren was very good also! Congrats again to EVERYONE! AND SOUTHWESTEREN YOU ALL SO TOTALLY DESERVED BEST CHOREOGRAPHY IT WAS GREAT! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

---Capital: Wow! You guys improved 110% since MusicFest. You sang fantastically. The Color Purple is my new favorite ballad! Congrats on your much deserved Grand Championship! You deserved it! I had you as GC.

---Southwestern: You guys did great. Loved the choreography. Singing wasn't weak, but it wasn't exactly powerful either. That's really the only "complaint" that I have. You sang very well, it's just that the singing wasn't very loud. Congrats on your 1RU! I had you as 1RU.

Nitro: I like this year's show. That being said, I do think that you weren't nearly as powerful as you have been at other competitions this year. I have a feeling that it was because you were the first group to go on today and there was that, uh, wierd feeling of going first. I don't know, though. I had you finishing with 4RU, got congrats on your 2RU.

Poca: You guys did great today. Don't let it get you down. Go over to Lebanon next week and give it all you have. Two more competitions to go. Don't let up. Choreography was good, but needs to be a little sharper. As far as vocals go, don't lose your phrasing and watch diction. Finally, project a little more. That's all. Great job overall, though! I had you 3RU.

St. Clairsville: Man, I felt sorry for you guys. I thought you did really good. You sang well and danced well. I'm surprised that you got 4RU. I know that's not where I had placed you. I had you 2RU.

Hoover: I enjoyed your show. It's a very different concept with the whole pirate thing, but it worked. Congrats! I had you 5RU.

I had a feeling Capital might sneak up on a few people. Tough loss though Nitro, trust me everyone at Winfield knows how hard it is to get that first GC. I was just happy I was actually there when it finally happened...best of luck to you guys at States.

my friend from nitro told me that there was a 1 point difference between capital and southwestern and a 6 pt different from capital and nitro! very close! good job everyone!

does anyone know what really happened or are we just going to keep throwing immature insults at Southwestern?

GC-Capital (Class A GC)
1RU-Southwestern (Class C GC)
2RU-Nitro (Class B GC)
3RU-Poca
4RU-St Clairsville
5RU-Hoover

Vocals-Capital
Choreo-Southwestern
Band-Capital

Don't quote me, but I think there was only six points between GC and 2RU.

Best choreo: southwestern.

Go figure. Any group could win if thier choreographer was judging.

I still remember Jason putting Southwestern in the finals over Pike at a competition at Norwell in 2005.

It's super shady judging your own groups.

southwestern won almost every comp in 2005!!!

Well with 4 spots I'm going to have to say it's too hard so I'll pick the who I think will be the top 5...

Top 5

Nitro
Poca
Southwestern
Capital
St. Clairsville

I want to say Nitro, Poca, and Southwestern will be very close. I think any of the 5 I listed could win it though. I'm going to say Nitro is going to take this one.

I agree. I think Nitro is the best of the groups there. But I dont think it will be as close as you think. Nitro is gonna win by a little bigger margin. Just my little input on it.

Sorry. I didn't mean to start a conflict. I just found out who the judges are yesterday. I'm sure they were picked before Southwestern and Nitro entered and it would probably be difficult to find a new judge this late. I'm sure Jason will be fair with all the groups.

Good luck to eveyone tomorrow.

Thank you for being so understanding, lol

Mike Crandall and Jason Johnson. There is one more, but I'm not sure who it is.
