holy crap this was a fun competition to attend! i never realized how great it was to just sit and watch show choir all day instead of having to perform!

let me just say every group did a fantastic job! katy, wes, and i spent the day watching EVERY group, taking notes, and very accurately predicting the outcome! ha ha it was the best!

first of all- cedar rapids prairie - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE! You guys are fantastic! I was so amazed with the show and was 100% enthralled the entire time! during the day, i had you guys closely ranked behind linn-mar, but the second you were done with your opener in finals, i pretty much made up my mind who was gonna win! i LOVE you guys and am so disappointed we will not be seeing you anywhere in competition (not that i'm aware). but seriously, i'd be totally willing to go to another one of your competitions just to see your show again! amazing job!

Linn-mar - i was SO HAPPY to see your show this year! the last time i saw you guys was when you performed during the day round in viterbo LAST YEAR! i absolutely loved your opener and ballad last year and was worried your show this year wouldn't have the same affect on me. i was totally wrong! your show design and style is so unique and i loved every bit of your show! trying to decide who was our pick to win was the hardest thing i ever had to choose! (wes probably agrees!) but overall i was SO impressed with your show and was so glad i could see you twice! congrats on band! and choreography! and di andre! you had the best solo by far! it was SO GOOD!

hastings! - you guys were what i was looking forward to all day! i was anxious to see what your show would be about this year and was really suprised! this was your best show (in my opinion) since my freshman year ('harder and harder to breathe' - inspector gadget, etc). it was excellent! very clean and i especially thought your vocals were way good! the costumes were so perfect and your ballad is again one of my favorites so far this year! good job - and we'll see you at onalaska this coming weekend!

anyway, i'd like to rant and rave on for every group we saw, but i seriously have homework to do! congrats to everyone - esp Cedar Rapids! really fun day

thanks soo much for the support for our show choir... it means so much to our group... and i agree that the other groups did amazing also... it was a tough competition

Congrats to Prairie and Linn Mar!!! What a great Iowa showing.

But... I still think it was wise of me to stay away from this competition. " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Good work on the stats, Jay. You're always useful. haha

Also as Jay clarified in his edit, Xcitement is currently not in existence.

Haha ... I never knew so many Prairie members were on SCC.

haha, yep.
i just wanna add to it that i agree w/ gen and colton, i was shaking in my shoes too, i thought both linn mar and hastings were fabulous. linn mar, your dresses were AMAZING. i just wanted to have your dresses so bad. and hastings, your boxing closer was so inventive and you pulled it off great! i couldn't tear my eyes away from you!
and about the whole CR rivalry thing, its pretty intense, and not just with show choir, with everything. i can remember my freshman or 8th grade year, one of the schools came in the middle of the night and spray painted all over the prairie sign in the hills. it was a sight to see from the highway. but i think things are getting better.
but good luck to everybody in their competitions for the rest of the season! kick some major butt!

just a random quesiton?
how often does prairie beat linn-mar, or the other way around linn-mar beat prairie?
just curious.

The last time Prairie beat Linn-Mar was in the day round of Mt. Pleasant 2005. Linn-Mar came back to win in finals in what was the closest Mt. Pleasant competition ever. Also, last year at Great River 2 of the 3 judges in day round had Prairie beating Linn-Mar. 2004 and 2005 were VERY successful years for Prairie... in 2004 they beat CR Kennedy in day rounds at both Tomah and Great River, and at Tomah took both the vocal and choreography captions from them. They also beat CR Washington at Great River in both rounds. In 2006 Prairie also got 4th at an extremely tough Linn-Mar over some really amazing groups, so I wouldn't imply at all that Prairie is not a top tier group... They just have some very inconsistent results.

Also, to answer UOSCF, I believe the time you are talking about is when Prairie beat Jefferson in 2000 at Big Dance (I'm pretty sure it was Big Dance). I believe Prairie got 2nd there (and also maybe choreography?) and Jefferson got 3rd. This was the first time a Cedar Rapids group had beaten Jefferson in a final round (CR Washington had come VERY close in finals at Urbandale 1998 after beating Jefferson in the day round).

The competitive high school show choirs in the Cedar Rapids area are:

Cedar Rapids Jefferson "West Side Delegation"
Cedar Rapids Jefferson "Ovation"

Lets just say out of the Cedar Rapids groups...

In recent years Prairie would tend to be more at the bottom for competition wise

Agreed. Every once in a while, they will come up with a good, if not great year, but other than that, I think it would be fair to put that at, or near, the bottom. I remember a number of years ago, Jefferson was having a pretty typical Jefferson year. I think they had been undefeated that year. Until the ran up against Prairie at some competition like Fort Madison or something and Prairie beat them. I think it was one of two times that whole year that Jefferson did not win. Who knows? Maybe this is another time for them.

edit: I wasn't done.

Hey I'm Prairie Member as well, and I just wanted to say "Can't we all just get along.... I mean we Cedar Rapids area show choirs need to stick together. If we start fighting the show choir world will fail to exist as we know it. It we have to get in huge arguments everytime one mistake is made we are going to not be having the great fun that show choir provides for us. I am sorry if we portrayed no professionalism as it was stated before, but when we won our last competition last year we were told to jump on stage when we won, and we have seen other groups do so as well. I myself can not see anyone purposely trying to harm another show choir's members with vocal gestures, but that doesn't mean they didn't. For that I apologize. I only hope that this is the last negative posting on this wonderful competiton's forum.

P.S. I had Linn Mar and Hastings beating us 100%... DiAndre, from one vocal soloist to another, you were amazing and I look forward to hearing you sing again at Fab Five. Hastings your show was amazing. I had never heard of you and you blew me away. CONGRATS TO ALL

Hey there! Just wanted to congratulate you on a wonderful performance!!! it was amazing and I must say we were for sure going to be a close second. To be completely honest none of our reaction was intentional....most deff not it was just that we have worked sooooo hard to get where we are and along with your group we also talked it over yesterday in our class practice. We were all very excited and didn't really know what to do....understand that we were absolutely appalled by both yours and Hastings performance....absolutely tremendous!!!! DiAndre you are still a wonderful human being and I don't think that you would have ever done any of this intentionally...in fact i know you didn't mean to. Sorry for any offense that we may have caused anyone but that isn't us and it was completely unintentional. Hope to see you all throughout the rest of season!!! woohooo kick some booty!!!!

and never forget that everyday is Earth Day!!!

i would just like to say that i love how you are handling yourselves with the after math

Ahhhhh!!!!

I feel like such a b*tch! I really didn't mean to start anything, nor did I have any intent to anyone arguing.

As we had practice tonight--we all talked--things were said, things all happened, but it's done and over with and we've all got more comps to come. I really hope I didn't put a bad bug in anything, because I had no intent, it's just the sheer fact that the CR rivalry "factor" took a step for the better and I wanted to make sure that it was voiced that people, kids, parents, directors, other judges in fact, DID notice the reaction.

Prairie, again, Congrats. You deserved it from what I hear (I never got to see you), and best o' luck for the rest of this year.

Ana--You're brilliant, really. Hello peacemaker.

Nick--The CR rivalry is luda. Flat out Luda-cris. People take it super-ass far and it's crazy. School vandalisms, it's a lot to handle really. It's hard to explain, but it happens...ya know? We're just praying for things to all play out beautifully for the year

Colton--I'm Happy for you! Don't go to school and tell all my old friends that I don't like or am mad at any of you! I'm not at all, and I love that the school that shaped my musical life and I wish I would've been there to be in that moment that Prairie beat LM. Live on Rivalry! ;)

Chris-- Love ya, hahahaha. The 'look'. But really...I am harmless. haha.

No more drama, smiles--big hair--hairspray and gaudy make-up! It'll be a fun year I'm sure!

I'll leave the ol' showchoir.com scene!
Bye bye

Good Luck everyone!

Ana... I have never met you but in my opinion you are wise beyond your years!!
I think that since this competition is over, and everyone is gearing up for the first BIG show choir weekend, we're all a little tense! I do think that without turning this thread into a big pointing-fingers-fest, that the topic at hand is an important one worth discussing.

I think really what we can all take away from this is that the many little things we as individuals do at competitions can have a HUGE impact- on your group, on other groups, the reputation of your program, the general spirit of the event, and obviously, the feelings of everyone involved. Show choir is awesome because it teaches so many lessons beyond the obvious ones. We all have the opportunity to learn professionalism, time management, how to handle high pressure situations, how to adapt quickly, and of course, how to compete in a healthy manner.

I do believe this starts with directors, but I also believe that any student who has the ability to sing and dance and perform, also has the ability to use his or her self-control in competitive settings. I also think it's worth noting that parents and fans are another important part of this equation.

If each show choir can act supportive and professional with everyone they come in contact with at competitions, we can really raise the bar on the events we attend. Absolutely, no choir has it completely right when it comes to behavior- we are all humans, and we all have moments of weakness.
But maybe the way to handle that is not to shrug it off or make excuses, but to address it again, and keep at it. This is a great time of year to do it- we all have plenty of chances left to get it right!
Ana... I have never met you but in my opinion you are wise beyond your years!!

good points ana.
sorry if i offended anyone!
i know i'm not from the CR area, and apparently the rivalry is a bit more then i comprehended. i just thought the aruging was getting alittle out of hand.
sorry, i just was trying to state a fact. people will always talk bad, no matter what group they are from or if they are instructed not too. that's all. sorry!
