Adam and Ana,

I agree with everything you have posted on this topic. I, too, was shocked when I saw the many similarities in this show. I also agree that OASC can not and should not be penalized for the "oversights" of their director and/or choreographer. For those of you who read my previous post, please understand that I stand by that post 100%. However, I felt that it was worded in a confrontational matter, and this is not a topic that needs confrontation. I'm sure OASC will do very well this year, and I wish them all the best. I look forward to seeing how this season unfolds...

Ben

Um...Okay... " border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Since no one from Eau Claire has posted...I suppose it's my duty.

Adam and Ana,

Thank you for not involving the Old Abe Show Choir in this debate. Since we've had our show in early June, we've known about the similarities (for example the fact that our opener is arranged by the director from Ankeny) and I do appreciate the fact that you don't blame us. We have absolutely no bearing on our show. However since this is a place to talk specifically about Viterbo can we take it to a seperate general discussion thread?

We at Memorial are proud of our show this year no matter if it's not original. We worked hard this year and I'm glad you agree that we shouldn't be penalized.

I think Adam misunderstood that it was a general statement because it started by addressing me directly lol.

Ana and I have both clearly stated that we are NOT blaming the kids for this. This has nothing to do with them and it's not their fault.

My quote-
"I have one problem with the show that can not be changed and I am almost sure isn't intentional, therefore should not be penalized against the group. The show is basically one blur of other show choirs such as Ankeny, Urbandale, Clinton, Troy, and Eisenhower. I just felt I was watching their stuff performed by you."

Ana's quote-
But, as people keep saying, the issue being discussed has no bearing on how Old Abes are doing with the show given to you- you guys are going to have another GREAT year.

And I realize that...I just am making a general statement so others read that...thank you though!

Ana,

I truely understand where you are coming from,

But please everyone do realize that you cannot blame the OASC kids for this...its simply the choreographer and directors fault. Would you ever stand up to your choreographer and say that you didnt like somthing and that you thought that she needed to change it?...no...you wouldnt because that would be rude and you would end up being hated by her and the group. So please dont judge the kids for this. I know they are just as pissed as anyone else about it! And trust me they do know!

I think this situation is slightly different, and slightly isolated from a choreographer simply recycling one of their songs, or many groups doing a popular or staple show choir song. As I said, the subject of recycling is nothing new. But we've never really seen, for example, Damon Brown do a well-known, successful, and recent Mike Weaver song- with Mike's choreography and blocking. There's never been much talk about THAT kind of recycling- if that can be called recycling. It's just something kind of new to discuss and think about.

But, as people keep saying, the issue being discussed has no bearing on how Old Abes are doing with the show given to you- you guys are going to have another GREAT year. I think this is just discussion, not drama.

I say we don't start any massive show choir drama THIS early into the season " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . We've all been to competitions from year to year and see show choir moves used by one choir the previous year used by a different choir the next and the same would go for Numbers. I, atleast, have seen this happen EVERY year for my 3 years that i was in show choir. So, i don't think you guys should make such a big deal out of it....because, it happens all around the show choir world.

WOW, all I have to say is WOW. I'm so surprised at were everybody is so early into the competition season. I didn't get to see that meany group or only apart of a group, but with what I say I was blown away. I think this season is going to be a season worth remembering.

I would like to thank all the groups that performed on Saturday, you were all amazing. I would really like to thank my group that I hosted (10th Street). You all are amazing people. You blew me away with your professionalizam (sp), vocals, choreography, and personalities. I was such a plessure getting to know you all. Thank you for all of support and energy you gave during the day.

Linn-Mar: Loved-loved-loved your show. I think it's a great show that will propel you guys through out the year. I hope I get to see you guys later on in the year. If anyone could PM with your schedule for the rest of the year I will totally try to make another comp.

Hastings: Only got to see part of your closer during finals in the wings and you look and sounded good. I can wait to see you show in full this coming weekend.

Eau-Claire: Also only got to see like 3 sec of your show from backstage when I was walking through the scene shop, but you sounded great and I can't wait to see you later in the season.

Holmen (mix): I saw your whole show during the day performance and I have to say I was dissipointed. Your choreography wasn't has clean as I have seen you guys perform it in the past and your vocals were all over the place, the blending of your voices weren't together. BUT, I didn't get to see you during finals, but I did hear you guys thru the monitors down stairs and you sound 100% better so I know you kicked it up in finals.

That is all I have for this comp. If anybody has any questions or wants me to elaberate (sp) more I what I saw please ask.

Again, thank you Linn-Mar for being great people to hang out with during the day and I wish you the best of luck the rest of the season.

I also wish everybody the best of luck this coming season and I hope to see you all at least once this year.

Thank you for your thoughts Scott. All of us involved with 10th Street wish to thank you so much for all of your incredible hospitality and help in making our day go smoothly. We felt very welcomed by you and so encouraged all the time. You are awesome!

Hats off to the amazing Nancy Allen! You have put together a really wonderful atmosphere to start a competition season. This competition is full of your great sense of teaching and excitement for working with people! Thanks Nancy!

I must say to every group that performed on Saturday that I thought it was amazing how advanced all of these shows were for January! You are all to be congratulated for your hard work to be this accomplished so early in the year. Best wishes to everyone!

I have been PMed twice now about my comments on Eau Claire's show, so I thought I would address the issue so that all would understand.

Eau Claire's 2007 show-

"Peace Of Mind" (Ankeny 2005)
"Down With Love" (Eisenhower 2005)
"Written In The Stars" (Clinton 2001)
"Roustabout/Heartbreak Medley" (Urbandale 2006) (Troy 2006, Eisenhower 2006)
"Prince Medley" (Eisenhower 2005)

There were some definite similarities and some parts that were completely different.

Some of the similarities... arrangements, similar choreography and blocking, costumes (EEE's same suits in the closer), etc.

That's what I mean.

Okay! I just want to congratulate everyone at their amazing jobs this weekend. As someone stated before, there was no bad show to be seen!

I also want to thank everyone who either stood up, waved a cell phone or clapped during our ballad at the end of the night! I was honestly about to cry when I saw everybody doing that. Thank you for your support and I hope to see most of you next year!
