I would agree that the competition doesn't determine the #1 group of the year, but to say that nobody cares how they place and that nobody cares who's going to dominate, c'mon. Everybody cares whether they like to admit it or not! Who doesn't want their favorite group to win, who doesn't want THEIR group to win! It's called a COMPETITION! Imagine if nobody really cared about placing, then nobody would ever really improve.
Imagine the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, etc. without competition. Let's say Bud Selig of MLB said that all baseball teams were winners and that we should all be lovey-dovey. It doesn't work like that. Having competition isn't a bad thing. If there was no such thing as competition in our society, then there would be no such thing as losing. Without learning the lesson that sometimes you lose, we would live in a pretty dumb world!
I could ramble for hours! Hope that makes sense!
You're right. But I guess it depends on what choir you are in. There's some choirs out there who go to competitions, but that is not the main purpose of their class. Choirs could have other engagements as well. For entertainment purposes, for fundraising purposes. Competitions are just one portion of what you accomplish in a year. My choir won competitions. ALOT. But, throughout the year, we had about 100 other engagements to do. 90% were not competition related! then, there was 10 competitions and we didn't get those engagements from winning competitions. But, that was a long time ago, and I guess choirs only compete now so..I concede.
Moral of this story is that it really doesn't matter who wins this competition. It would be fantastic if your choir did, but no choir is "better" than any other choir. And all this "who is gonna dominate this year" and "who is the best group of the year" doesn't really matter to anybody. It's just a cheap way to gloat at eachother and that is not why this website, or show choir for that matter was made.

ummm....Why is that? Elise you think any comp that you didn't win at or place at is bias. Dang you're not even in it anymore let it go! I really think that for the most part this comp really shows who ends the year #1 minus the fact that it never includes Brea or Arcadia this comps picks the #1 choir in the state. Grow up girl.
Brea used to go to this competition, however I don't know why they don't anymore. If I recall correctly, the competion was also based on a different point scale...but more recently the point spread is alot bigger and the placings were alot closer so from what I can tell the talent is getting better.
Despite the fact that this competion is the last of the year, I really don't think that it can be said that the winner is the group who is #1 for the year. The way you could tell in my opinion is the points at the competitions. You look at what the judges score your choir... I. E. 17/20 18/20 19/20 etc. If you are consistently scored between 17/20 - 20/20 in certain fields throughout the year, that's where you can really see who is the #1 choir. - The choir who consistantly scores high all the time, and not just at the last competition. Adjudicators are subjective. And when you see consistancy in scores from ALL judges, that's when you know the dominant choir.
Also, since when did it ever matter who the #1 choir in the state was. Those statistics never mattered to the choirs who performed back in the day. And even now, I think they don't matter. You go to competitions to get subjective opinions from three experts but if you didn't go, does that mean you disqualify yourself from being the #1 choir? I don't even think this competition was started for the purpose of determining who the #1 show choir of the state is. What...do you get like some kind of vacation package for being the number one choir in the state? Do you advance to the Nationals??? What Nationals!!!

is anybody else have problems with theirs.. because on mine.. it keeps like.. lagging during everyones sets.. it isn't that much.. maybe like every 2 minutes it'll freeze for a split second and then speed up again.. its REALLY annoying
Got it today. Overall it was pretty good. There were some ripples that they didn't show though because the cameras were too far in, which is too bad. And on the back of the DVD cover for Advanced Mixed, there's a picture of Hartbreakers instead of Sound Vibes, oh well no big deal, just funny!
